Out now on Riverdream Records, Liverpool’s The Wood demonstrate their consolidated class with Cold Fire EP. Likened to vocal music, guided by things like gospel, choir, and Motown, a very British angle meets contemporary folk rock to provide a sense of uniqueness. The EP showcases a range of tracks that each demonstrate seductive melodies and soulful soliloquies. Mixed by Pete Maher, who’s also worked on U2, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and much more, the EP is stitched up with a modern alternative sound design that positions the band among their brightest influences. For the title track, Cold Fire, the duo are joined by Scottish singer Brooke Combe. She’s recently been on TV with Jools Holland and has just finished a tour of the US supporting Lionel Richie with her band, Benson Boone. Let’s hear it. 
 
A slow groove crawls out of the fire like melted syrup, glowing golden with heat and viscous luxury. Chords drape the rhythm in silky blankets of soft melody. Brooke begins to sing, her voice shimmers with an enchanting mysticism that captivates extra-dimensional sensations. A duet of vocals builds, as the first verse leaves us agape, a slow progression builds intensity and sonic passion as keyboards and guitars all flow together in delicate rivers of sound. It’s so relaxing, perfect for Monday morning shenanigans, taking it easy with a gentle pressure to rise and shine flowing from cosy compositions that envelop us in comfort.
