Industrial music forerunners Test Dept. return with their classic 1983 original State Of Affairs. Recorded at BBC Maida Vale Studio during their legendary Peel Session, with the phenomenal John Peel, their organic and mechanical sound resonates through the years. The track began as a section of source material that was built upon with instruments until a full live track was in place. It’s this inventive progression that’s immortalised in West London. From their early days in the 80s when the genre had no history to their inevitable bounce back in the 2010s, the band are preparing a series of boxed sets that encapsulate their long and continuing career. The first in the run will be Industrial Overture. Studio & Live Recordings 1982-1985. With the album out on the 5th of December, the State Of Affairs single is out now and contains a Red Herrings version of Gdansk.

The audio sample rings out like a Tannoy, glitches create an abstraction and psychedelic sense of foreboding. Strange percussion sounds then begin to bash as metalwork and chunky pots clang together in rhythmic waves of shiny melody. Whistling tones reveal eeriness as the keyboards drone with discordant signals. Vocals repeat and slice within the cacophony, bouncing clanks and rumbling bumps cause the music to swell and crack with vicious temperament. A catalogue of creativity unravels as the instrumentation delivers inventive, destructive, and chaotic order.
