Nothing beats rising above and helping others do the same. That’s what this journal is all about and so it seems is the new number by Nu Earth Groove artist alya isha. It appears as if she coined the genre herself, or with friends, and why not. Her soulful jazz renditions twist the theme to bring a unique flavour (or is that flava?). The British, Indian, Mauritian, and Swiss multinational moved to Tooting aged ten when she immigrated to the UK from Japan. After a stint in Cuba, she came to Brixton, England. Making herself right at home and becoming a key member of her community and beyond, we’re super pleased she decided to stay and make music for us to listen to. She’s been played on BBC Radio 6 and has featured at the Wilderness Festival, and those are just a few highlights. This new track has been performed by a global community of artists, all put together by the maven of musical architecture. A silken deeply coloured vocal begins; it simmers on a gentle heat. Then a rainstorm of drums begins, bass bends and slides on key notes as the weather increases its intensity. A mixture of intensity and smooth musical calm join in a thunderous coalescing of talents and passion. Threaded together by the character of the vocal, the jazz and soul elements bump and burst along vibrant bass tones that want to be remembered. The precipitatory percussion flow in an abstract strangeness that reveals a disjointed flux of cerebral confusion and beauty.
