Trip-hop Beats And Fundamental Chills Roll Through The Hills In Clouds So Low From Claude918/2/2025
Claude9
Clouds So Low Austin The first single from the upcoming new album, Clouds So Low showcases Austin’s Claude9 as their premiere synthpop and electro artist. Texas is better known for Country and Western, but anyone with a braincell knows that locations and their stereotypes are for the birds. Electronic music has a home anywhere it can be enjoyed, which means the artform has quickly become a global phenomenon. The new Chords Of Love album will be out March 28th on New Human Music and lets loose a string of chilled and mind-massaging numbers that complete the atmosphere. Blending vibes from trip-hop and experimental Brian Eno style backdrops, Claude9 brings a rhythmic escapism and a mental clarity through portioned and pedicured sound waves. A chunky drum-break begins the tune as swirling radio sounds sweep across like digital owls. Lush chords find their way through as a chewy bass underscore wraps up the road below the fizzing and luminescing floodlights of sound. A robot effect on the vocal brings a retro vibe as the song begins with laid back groove. The song progresses as a spoken word element joins the rhythm, drums continue in brief hip-hop lie bursts of rattling metalwork and rolling skins. Windy gusts of sound shine down from the heights of chill as the music evolves and twists along its consistent vibe of laid-back imagination and stoic mindfulness. Kelsey Michael
Music Of The Waves Dimple Discs Released on the Peckham-based Dimple Discs, the British Kelsey Michael has her debut record Lethowsow and a great video for Music Of The Waves. She’s a force of nature, of the most attractive kind, bringing in faces from every corner whose turned heads all come to hear the music that speaks deeply and with professional charm. Kelsey Michael has recently put her album out, Music Of The Waves is one of the tracks she chose to push the idea to its furthest. It’s for people who like charismatic female singers such as Aretha Franklin, Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchel, and Carly Simon. Her folk and indie soulful style of songwriting provides a mesmerising and heartfilling journey through sound and translations of feeling that universally swallow our senses. A peaceful lounge piano sound breaks with the waves on the video as the drumming adds a skin-touch pulse through the forward push of chords. Kelsey Michael begins, her folk and jazz melody delicately tiptoes on scales and melodies that reward us listeners with beauty and docile feelings of giving in to the song. Long winded breaths of tune adapt and wrap though the poetic musical song that shifts from linguistic phrase to harmonised fizz and dreamy kinship formulae that inspire letting go of tension and picturesque images of half-remembered scenes. The Yets
Pinup Girl Myrtle Beach Dream-pop duo The Yets are on fire with their catchy and incredibly morish sound. They’ve been busy as always and now we have a new album to put on the system. From South Carolina, the pairing of songwriters, Craig Anderson Snook and Robin Wilson bring their talents from their band days in Skirt and Gross Negligence to reinvent the bliss rock vein that we all want to take samples from. They use time-tested techniques of writing quality material and then add some modern fun and magic that they create through effort and persistence, realising a mixture of ultra new and ultra classic material that we can all get into. With a host of beautiful singles already, Pinup Girl marks the release of their new album of which this video is its title track. It begins gracefully, gradual beats splash into the quiet and bring a fullness as they resonate. The drums are met by guitar and synthesiser, ethnic and rock n roll sounds join in a combination of melodic caress that rise to meet the lyrics. Robin Wilson starts, the verses shine with ethereal composition and magical soul-filled deliveries. A silken flow of material sound flings past in seamless runs of shifting chord and melodic break that sponge up the raw emotions the seep from every line. It carries you away and leaves you high on mountains of idea, a dream and a fantasy put to words and music, The Yets have always got something familiarly exotic for us to wrap ourselves up in. Evidence Of A Struggle
Eddy Derecho Chicago Inspired by post-rock flagships such as Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky, Rev. Billy Simmons opens the gates to his new Evidence Of A Struggle album with this first single. A glimpse at what is to come and a lively addition to your playlist, Eddy Derecho takes the adventurous step of using vocals against the backdrop of previous instrumental work. About our human flaws that mean we are quick to judge, marginalise, and eradicate, this energetic and noise-fest production carries a swift and crushing creativity that can’t be ignored. Including the drumming talents of Matt Walker, of Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Morrissey, and more, plus the visual effects of John Airo for the video, this latest album has contributions from a range of names from the alternative rock crowd. Using music as a tool to explore our relationship to the world and its problems, perhaps a few good songs can help us to make sense of what needs to be done. A forest of drums and guitar sounds begins the motion picture, chunky bass punches in the time stamp while the churning deliciousness of sound continues to progress. A vocal begins, harmonising and effected to a crisp uniqueness, the punky rock guitars offer harmonics and riff-based chord progressions that rise and fall as the bass completes the picture. A fascinating retrograde feel takes us into realms of grunge, 90s alternative rock, and some kind of 80s metal as the band led by Rev Billy concocts an arrangement of influence and journeymanship that caries us over the horizon. History Of Guns
Little Miss Suicide (25) Liquid Len Records It’s a remarkable anniversary for History Of Guns. The UK-based industrial post-punk mainstays are celebrating 25 years of Little Miss Suicide, one of their most popular and long-serving numbers. This new video combines the music with footage taken from 1998 when the band performed it during its first outing. Formed in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, the band have been leading the way in the futurepunk scene that took control at the turn of the century. All the original audio files have been pulled out of the vault and handed over to a crack team of studio professionals to get the music sounding its best. Max Rael and Caden Clarkson took to the mixing duties before Pete Maher (of U2, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave, Nine Inch Nails credit) mastered the final version. The best thing about it is that 25 years on Little Miss Suicide is popular, alive, and as healthy as ever. Organic studio sounds begin the track as the drumming kicks in with a quick and catchy beat. Guitars and vocals enter, churning riffs sit tightly on the push of drums as a harmonised and deep lyric section begins. Dramatic projection of the words pushes the goth culture to the forefront as spooky and melancholy devilishness takes the story of the song to new heights. An edge of tongue-in-cheek comic-book style gives rise to great sounding bleepy synths that spiral and gurgle as the distorted guitar cranks on with its tight and penetrating patterns. A genuine retro and vintage feel permeates the track with the low-fi delivery finding space through the quirk and punch that this genre does best. The Awakening
Haunting Intervention Arts The Johannesburg-born and now US-based gothic rock figurehead The Awakening is almost ready with his 12th studio record. The eponymous album contains a complete setlist of original material that has roots and fingers deeply submerged in the vision of gothic pantomime that began in the 1980s. With a foundation based on artists like Sisters Of Mercy, Joy Division, Him, and The Cure, the fundamentals of his form take elements from the wider scene and concentrate them into one line of fitting and captivating productions. Known for his solo work and for being a regular member of LA-based Beauty In Chaos, The Awakening is an alarm call that reminds us to wear black. With over 300 tracks to his name and with more than a few being used for television and film, I wonder what kind of storyline Haunting will be good to embellish? A darkwave style dance melody roars from the effected electric guitar. Crack drums pulse in high-energy bursts of simple rhythm as the vocal begins. The voice hits with baritone wholegrain drama, a push of guitar and bass delivers a torrent of feeling and intrigue through epic acts of poetic musical gesture. A chorus arrives on gliding bars as the melody adapts and the chords begin to leap like flames reaching for freshly laid fuel atop beautifully breathing embers. Gothic energy and heavy rock guttural projection, The Awakening’s Haunting takes us through forests of abstract and menacing shadows.
