Woman Like You London The prince of mood and maturity, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michele Ducci returns to the stage with Woman Like You. His previous short video was nominated for a serious award, and this new creation is another walk in the wilderness that surely speaks volumes. This time Ducci has made use of a full-on pedal organ that provides rhythm, bass, and tone all at once. He’s borrowed Girl In The Year Above guitarist Shane Kennedy to round off the sound, and Simon Milner from Is Tropical and Ysing took care of the production at 4am studios in the capital. Woman Like You revisits the adventurous world of Snail, where hybrid creatures inhabit the land. With the Pythagorean rituals still resonating in this society, music plays a fundamental part of life. Highlighting the captivating backing vocals of Letizia Mandoleisi, the song is an ode to love and the sound of matter in the universe. A retro melody washes over and then stops, strange voices offer a narrative, then the drums begin. The bass begins to bop with a foot-stomping rhythm, and a meandering vocal line begins to carry us forward. The melody offers up a prettiness with childish scales that sound like playing in the garden. A brisk electric guitar shimmers in the middle ground and an orchestral rise in intensity builds through the bassline and vocal tune. Trapped In Freedom Finland Integrating the strange with the cathartic, Finland’s Ahva lights another fire on the hill with Trapped In Freedom. He came up with the idea while in lockdown, the metropolis of Helsinki laying before him yet barred from the touch of human hands. The odd sensation of liberation, no work, no school, no appointments, yet no people, no friendship, no community, creates a fascinating angle for this piece. Building on that seed of solidarity and solace, Trapped In Freedom is a sneak peak of the upcoming LP Clean Your Soul. We could do with that. He’s written an earnest and candid song that is almost universal in its ability to relate. A masterful mix of electronic and live sounds, Ahva’s direction lets us imagine and dream while dancing along. A super-fast beat opens the track, and a playful melody takes the lead. Merry-go-round themes spring to mind, fairground and dream; the vocals are layered with effect and oddity. A fast rhythm continues in the vocals as the quick-fire lines continue to uplift and rise with experimental motivation and progressions. An invigorating mix of sounds makes the piece rattle as it thunders along; musicians peering out of the windows with instruments in hand, manically playing in time to the applause. Love Like Stars (feat. Darrell Arden) New Jersey The gloom of Morristown at twilight, where the ghosts of Washington’s forces still haunt the fields and backroads, the tavern district is brought to life with Mourning Coffee. Their unique brand of folk and goth rock takes us right into the fantasy era of the macabre and sullen. A juxtaposition to the blues and jazz scene that thrives in this part of the world, an artistic ear and romantic poetry combine to perform deep and resonant listening material. Their new album is called A Slow Hearse Leaves Everyone Yearning. Does the back of your neck begin to tingle? It ought to, as it’s a 13-track monument to cemeteries and coffeeshops with a mature and energetic focus. Recorded independently and with technical assistance from Sam Stauff, the record is a homely blend of perfection and soul. To highlight the record, I’ve put Love Like Stars featuring Darrell Arden on feature today, if you like it then put the album on your list. A warm and close-in acoustic steel string begins a delicate melody. It has a 1970s wildlife folk sound about it, mimicking the frolics of a firefly or doe. The lyrics enter; Daniel Arden’s voice carries a unique character that takes us to armchairs and an open fire. Harmonising backing vocals add an extra layer of charm as the main voice builds the tale. A rise appears as drums and bells add another projection to the angular dimension. A buoyant rock energy rolls along as the mysterious enchantments decorate the backdrop. The singer-songwriter from Hampshire, in the South of England, takes another leap into the choppy waters with So It Begins... The song sounds exciting already, and you’ll be pleased to know it’s a radio friendly pop number that doesn’t try to make you feel anything but happy and vibrant. That sound from the 2010s is the vibe, a classy yet laid-back pre-Covid age of steady serotonin is revisited and encouraged to take roots in today’s era. With a no-nonsense honesty that’s as refreshing as it is creatively unique to him, Mauro Brenner offers anthem, moments, and mindfulness that you can safely play any time of day. A lively rhythm begins with a tubular bass sound. Mauro begins with his voice, it’s similar to Harry Styles with his playful elocution, the patterns are in a joyous pop melody that rises and falls with easy lines. The pacey and rhythmic vocals hit the drums like a reef knot, tying up the bars in twists of drama and personal growth. It’s stronger for it, the look back, the overlap, the feed through to the present, and this track puts it all in perspective. Overwhelmed Plastic Sound She came to London with an otherworldly sense of direction and settled there to enchant and entertain. Described by The New York Times as from another dimension, the Montreal original is setting the scene for her follow-up album. 2023 saw her critically acclaimed Atoms, a wide-ranging body of work that took listeners on a Burton-esque adventure through poignant portrayals akin to Bjork, Nick Cave, Portishead, and Nina Simone. This latest track is Overwhelmed and takes the singer to a 60s and 70s vibe with soul and funk carrying her forward. A new foundation and the same great mind behind it, her forthcoming album is looking like the start of a new story. It’s got a brilliant video out now on Plastic Sound. A jazz and rhythm melody begins the piece, Belle Scar struts in and gives us a show. Wearing a bright red raincoat, her dance moves are elevated by fantastic choreography. The disco tune builds, bass, brass, and vocals to put bets on, the song grooves and bumps along with a gradual swagger and charm. The head wants to bop, and the feet want to tap, a meltdown break down lets us admire the gorgeous timbre of her voice before the band revs up one more time. The rock n roll sense of passion finds a comfy space between a BeeGees and Parliament juxtaposition, let’s go to space with this one. Dodgy Box The Everly Pregnant Brothers A grass-roots music scene powerup across the board, the legendary Pete McKee from The Everly Pregnant Brothers is headlining a run of shows in several cosy venues, raising money for the field. Everyone knows you need to nurture the roots to get a decent crop, and supporting artists of all kinds at the pub and club level means some of them get extremely good. The parody band who play ukulele versions of popular songs The Everly Pregnant Brothers will appear alongside their compere at The Boy With A Leg Named Brian exhibition across April and May to raise much needed money for The Music Venue's Trust. With 50 posters to be printed and signed by the artist, these will be snapped up and the proceeds donated. It's a tongue-in-cheek and entertaining evening whether you like ukulele or not. The punky folk attitude rings out, the melody is good but the elocution is pub and bar, not cabaret and grand piano. Mona Lisa Overdrive Reaky Reakson Remix The enigmatic Juno Reactor created this piece for the Matrix Reloaded movie in 2003. To coincide with Juno Reactor’s Matrix exhibition, the number has been reinvented and “reloaded” by the meganeural talents of Slovenia's DJ Reaky Reakson. The track Mona Lisa Overdrive was the first piece commissioned by The Matrix producers, so it marks a milestone in his journey as a professional composer. With a fully immersive live show on the books, Inside The Matrix will showcase not only the iconic films but place Juno Reactor in the fold who will perform music made for the films. How epic is that? The curious brand of electronic, dance, and house music that Juno Reactor is well-known for gets an explosive taste of intensity with this Reaky Reakson remix. It begins with cinematic clarity, brass, and string pans out in an increasing delivery of drama. A semblance of rhythm and fast notation then takes control; the melody begins to emerge from pulsation and repeating jabs of flow. Drums hit hard; they’re taken in by a slimy bass that coils and squashes around the heavy-foot rhythm that insists on speed. A driving force rises as more horns climb from the mixture and give way to a lead string, fast and swirling in hypnotic colours and sensation. The track is relentless; the pressure keeps rising. They don’t have a label yet; it’s just their passion and desire to create that puts them on the map. Do they even need one? Released on the 10th of April, their latest single Sapphire Skies unleashes a new energy in preparation for their new EP. This first single of the year takes us into the realms of metalcore, synthesisers, and rampaging beats. Showcasing their trademark guttural vocal roars and sculpted melodies, Sapphire Skies brings Aleya to their home turf while opening new dimensions from above. Their work has been picked up by Kerrang! Radio and BBC Radio 1, so what are you waiting for? Play the tune loud. The band throw themselves headfirst in; the music surges with full effect as soon as it begins. Atmosphere London A graduate of the world-famous BRIT School for the performing and creative arts, London’s stunning Natalie Shay is owning her direction with a new EP. Atmosphere has some popular tracks already with thousands of streams each. The rest of the record was recently released and is bound to catch up with the singles in no time at all. For people who feel everything, Natalie Shay writes tunes that relate to the topsy turvy inside reality that other people rarely acknowledge. Her tracks have been featured on international media like Radio 1, Future Pop, BBC Radio 6 Music, and BBC Introducing. It dwarfs my 30 seconds on Radio 4. Having supported Shania Twain at Hyde Park, she’s also played loads of UK festivals and appeared on CBBC a few times too. What a star! Let’s put our ears in action and check out her title track Atmosphere. Summery tones on the guitar ring out with a warm and cosy distortion. The rock and pop feel opens out further as the drums and voice hit the bars at the same time. Natalie Shay sings like a pro with a gorgeous projection and timbre, the words are positioned before us like perfect pictures as she gracefully takes the music further into the chorus. An upbeat melody takes control; it carries the slight sadness hidden within the music into a realm of possibility and excitement. Dogtrack Leeds Loud and provocative, the Yorkshire-based dance-punk act Polevaulter are smashing their personal best with their latest 4-track EP. Descending is available now and contains thirteen minutes of pure elevation. Describing themselves as no-wave, this 1970s brand of sound was a direct affront to the commercial new wave genre that dominated the radio of the day. Hearing the term used now must conjure the same kind of idea, especially as AI thinks it knows all about what makes music sound good. Relevance aside. These guys want to put humanity back in the house by playing, writing, intuiting, and performing like they did in the old days. Put the formulaic stuff on another shelf. Dogtrack is one of the songs from the new record; it’s not as cruel as the bull ring. It makes you think before you press play, so we had better get to it. Shimmering loops begin the tune before a sudden surge of bass thumps in. The brisk rhythm collapses all around us as a Northern voice begin chanting in strange persuasive lines. The futility of the circuit, the bet, the loss, the brief happiness when you win. A rippling drum score waves and bounces as synths scream and screech along a thundering bass that doesn’t stop, ever. It’s art, really. Art that sounds good. This Is Not Heaven Pittsburgh With Low Sunday Ghost Machine – Black EP on its way to our ears in time for mid-May, the sequel to their celebrated White EP, post-punk shoegaze pioneers Lowsunday remind us that This Is Not Heaven. Out on Projekt Records, the band are finalising their dual release with their run up to Black. It’s their first output since 1999, the twenty-year hiatus saw music evolve at speed around the compass, so re-establishing true North is relevant and necessary. Already garnering international attention, White was proudly among the Post-Punk.com EPs of the year 25. This negative image record is set to stun once again with a darker and more atmospheric sound. What is not heaven? This is. A rhythm and bass section strikes immediately and lifts with the onset of guitars that wail like mysterious forces within castle walls. The music builds with the repeating riff, it thumps with a galloping bass and snare-driven drumming. Whispered vocals then form within the cosmic strings and vibrating reality. The voice begins to describe things that require us to listen intently. A Sisters Of Mercy style of singing, but darker and more experimental, the band makes creepy noises and rhythmic witchcraft with their masterful use of effects and timing. Exciting times. Damage Control and Leæther Strip
Oblivion Metropolis Records The electronic music goliaths Damage Control explore some seriously heavy and deep dimensions for their latest collaboration with Denmark’s Leæther Strip. Based in Australia and Europe, the industrial digital fourpiece always offer something extra intellectual with their epic style. This time they’ve delved into the sound scope of customised Kemper guitar amps, pushing the boundary of the normal into extraordinary semblances. A direct follow up to their January single release Rage, Oblivion again finds its feet with the guest vocal slot filled by Leæther Strip. Produced by Chris Peterson and engineered by Greg Reely, the record is delivered in the garb of bands like Fear Factory, Skinny Puppy, and Front Line Assembly. They’ve both been instrumental in the making of Damage Control’s next record, Oblivion Grid. It’s not formally announced so no date yet. That’s fine because this new track has more than enough meat on the bone to keep us occupied. Murky underground sounds echo through the tunnelling as a searing synth rises from the chaos and darkness. A grinding atmosphere permeates as the drums begin to offer a dirging tempo. Leæther Strip begins with his vocals, gruff and industrial in style, his melody extends into baritone and tenor as his artistic projection displays professional grooming. The synthesisers and guitars work together to create a disturbing shudder that manifests further as the music progresses. Touch Me (All Night Long) Toucan Sounds It’s the latest project of steams millionaire Pat Lok and Haitian Mexican polymath F-Mack. Their prolific entertainment genre of tunes captures a futurist dance jamboree with Italo beat and disco fundamentals. A live duo of mystery and allure, the pairing known as CŒUR ACIDE provide a limb stretching, head shunting, footwork labyrinth for revellers to navigate as they weave in and out of the bar line. They take a retro vibe from the glory days of 90s rave and techno then use all the creative scallywaggery of the age to produce something ever more present. Presenting themselves as time travelling refugees from an age where intimacy is outlawed, CŒUR ACIDE (Acid Heart) enter as a warning about our meaningless future. Penned as a soundtrack to the end of times, this is Touch Me (All Night Long). Don’t be shy. A vibrant snappy rhythm breaks open the track with a jabbing synth melody that provides ample impetus to dance. A soul melody emerges from the vocal, it provides funky lines with a little swearing, parents, and runs down the aisle with flowing colours and upbeat fantasy. It’s a love song without the romance, carnal and platonic alike, we can all feel the groove and get in the mood for social interaction, maybe a bit more. Written On Me London The electronic alternative scene in the UK is thriving, with no small part played by the enchanting Bea Elmy Martin. A dialogue of emotional sharpness and inner world exploration carries her gossamer influence across boundaries. Growing up around real and classic music, icons like Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder adorned her formative years. Learning how melody and feeling work together to explain the intangible inner dimension, Bea Elmy Martin quickly developed her own sense of intimate poignancy that still reflects beautifully in her work. Since Blue Escape, her 2021 debut, Bea Elmy Martin has deliberately taken the slow and steady road with her producer, Dominic J. Goldsmith. This ultimately led to her celebrated album, Under The Yew. The second record has taken the same name. Presented as a sequel, Under The Yew II will surface later this year. From the record is this delicately poised sound sculpture, Written On Me. It’s today’s feature. An almost silent note begins the piece before Bea enters with her delicate power. Superstar Karaoke Metropolis Records The union of sounds and the merging of destinations that formed from the pairing up of Lords of Acid and Princess Superstar carries their fun electronic suave to elaborate levels. With an epic combination of fire and reputation, Belgian provocateurs Lords of Acid are keen to make their first new material in eight years as enticing as it is rewarding. A casual rock and dance ethic frames their divergent style while Princess Superstar adds her US culture and show-stopping singing voice to the equation. What results is an EBM style party number that utilises heavy metal rhythms and industrial music formulae to steal every base on its home run. Shrine 2026 Magic Door Record Label Back with a single and a B-side, plus a list of dates for us to see them on stage, US legends The Dambuilders present Shrine 2026. They made a name for themselves with college radio, their tunes ringing out across the campus and dormitory buildings, in cars, and trendy bars. As the freshers grow into seniors and then fly the nest, they take their tastes with them, and that’s where we are today. Having recently reformed in 2025, they performed their 1989 debut album in full at NYC Berlin and Dromfest. This first new material since the noughties is a reprise of their 1994 hit Shrine. Their B-Side is I Hope We’re Not Too Late, which together with Shrine, was produced by Ray Ketchem at Magic Door then mastered by Greg Calbi, award-winner and premiere engineer, known for work with Lennon, Bowie, Tom Petty, Patti Smith, and many more. It’s out now. A catchy bass and drum riff begins the tune before the guitars wallow in with a high energy distortion. The vocals hit, that familiar melody reminds us of the original and a mixing production difference leaves us agape. The chords hammer in with their fast strumming on the bridge as the verses roll out the story piece by piece. A lean middle section then lifts the tune into a new dimension before the chorus melody of vocals bring the song back to our ears. A mesmerising harmony plays with bass, guitar, and vocal shows us vibrant rock music still has room for technicality. The sophomore LP from the regents of wretched feelings, its opus is expanded and strengthened with their latest film-noire style music video. Visuals and motives from the Golden Age of Cinema, the choreography tells a story all its own. Can we feel love for a black and white long passed illusion? Something about the human mind allows it, and something about this band makes the concept even more fascinating. Silken estrangement opens the piece and gives rise to a delicate acoustic, pushing the chords in little rhythmic notions of deciphered melody. Desolate Moments Italy A gothic darkwave phenomenon, Italy’s Christine Plays Viola are busy promoting their new album Fear Increases Violent Emotions, or simply F.I.V.E. The latest single from the record is the video track Desolate Moments. This new production was released just Friday with an exclusive premiere the day before. Now that the official business is done, I’ve been invited too. The song was written by band leader and guitarist Fabrizio Giampietro; their style captures elements of the darker Joy Division and Cure moments while exploring the vast underground depths of their genre. With enchanting baritone vocal lines and a heavy atmosphere of tension and device, their twenty-year career is still just as fresh as before. This is Desolate Moments on film. A thumping pace merges gently with waves of abstract keyboard and guitar. The rhythm is gracefully calm yet insists on more to follow. A rising pace greets doubling up of the timing as the backbeat continues to pound. Vocals flow in, melodrama and tenacity; a piercing synth captivates as the voice lends an almost operatic spookiness. A drifting lead guitar churns with enchantment before the lyrics fall back into the front row.
