Sledges
Letters San Diego Alternative heavy metal and shoegaze stalwarts Sledges are ready with their latest single Letters. It’s from the new Losing Pace EP, landing on 9th June. Taking their home of San Diego in California by brutal storm with crazy big riffs and deep, resonant emotional drama, Sledges reveal a heavy heart and a crimson dream within their sonic delivery. Comprised of Philly Gomez (vocals and guitar), Alex Angulo (bass), Julian Romero (guitar), and Mason Haidar (drums), since forming in 2020 and releasing Melting Lives as a pandemic power tune, they’ve accelerated and collaborated into new heights. From their crunching Headwinds and Disgusting, they’re here with the next chapter and its front-running song Letters. It jangles in with chiming reverb and lucid chords. Before we know what room we’re in, a punch of drums and bass gives the green light to a gallop of distortion and rock that drifts like a high-speed sportscar. A swinging to-and-fro in delivery presents like a rotating jewel under angular spotlights. As the gemstone revolves, as the song progresses through the bars, facets of beauty and allure sparkle and shine as on occasion the light hits flat on, giving it a dazzling glow. Singing guitars and kick-driven drumming gives an ample bedrock for the dreamy and evocative vocals to swing through. Chayne
It’s Gone, He’s Gone Perpignan It’s amazing to think this confident and head-strong talent of a young woman is only 17. She’s been recording and producing music since 2020 so already has a lot of time on the books. Working with the sought-after music producer Paul Thompson, Chayne has been able to create her own diverse sound design while staying fresh and modern with regular output. It’s Gone, He’s Gone is the latest single taken from her forthcoming debut album. The two-chord-based anti-ballad about breakup and freedom puts a classic edge into a myriad of influences that spans from stadium rock to French Cinema. It’s incredible that despite being at school and having all the issues that brings, Chayne has found the space and drive to make herself a member of the music scene with confidence and style. Check out her new single. It begins with a plucked melody that playfully mesmerises along a rhythmic pulse. Chayne begins to sing, her carefree vocal begins to rationalise the feelings of loss. Transmuting emotion into happy feelings, the music builds with a vibrancy and clever pop infectiousness that we can’t ignore. A cute whistling tune adds a new layer of sensation to the bounce, as its rhythms add a significant groove we can disappear into. A continual progression of instrumentation keeps the lean moving as the centre of gravity shifts left to right with vocal and music taking turns. It’s got a uniqueness and spirit that intrigues while lifting the spirits with gentle smiles. You can find out more on the Chayne music website Visit Chayne on Instagram TikTok X and Facebook

Save Us Buffalo What began as a love for bands like New Order became unique when complimented by the work of groups like M83. Dotsun Moon is the dreamgaze art music project of Richard Flierl. With moving themes and deliberately enchanting melodies, a mosaic of emotions tingles through the veins of this magical sound. As a band, they’ve been recording and releasing since 2011. Their debut record 4 A.M. was received with incredible support and love which helped them to build the next few miles of road. Now, almost 15 years later, Dotsun Moon are striding through the countryside of our imagination with ever increasing pace. From the new album Tiger, which is due at the end of June, Save Us is a song about finding shared hope and ways to climb over the walls put down to keep us apart. Here it is. A roll of drums leads right into a glistening wave of mixed sounds as vocal, synths, and guitars add to the percussive barrage, The bass line takes us by the hand and leads us through a psychedelic corridor of moving colours and sonic reflections of sensation. The track flows with an abstract production as the tone ripples in and out of view across the spectrum of instruments. Pretty harmonies and free-falling motions link together with a strange mirror image that shimmers with odd lighting. A patchwork quilt of inspiring passages holds down the picnic as a playful game continues in the sun. Mustard Service
Going Nowhere Miami Adding a bit of warmth to any playlist, Florida’s Mustard Service bring a flavourful medley of the whole American continent to the scene. Not only do they involve the colours and atmospheres of jazz and funk, they also bring on the bossa nova to a surf rock spine. Layered with influences that come from south of the border, song-writing aspects from Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, and Uruguay are sewn in like sequins and spikes. The three-piece band are all proud Latin Americans with a rich heritage linking many cultures together. This background gives them a sweet spot for creativity that gives rise to a real mix of melody and movement only this unique group can provide.. Or is that muster? The new Mustard Service album is on its way; Vice City Magic is out on the 18th of July. The single, out now, is Going Nowhere and explores the romanticism of shared self-destructive lifestyles. Rock n roll. A fun and lively guitar phrase bursts the song open like a present on a birthday morning. A sunny melody with sliding tones brings out the Miami sunshine as bass and drums begin to hammer in with a heavy-duty rhythm. Deep and powerful strokes then meet a harmony vocal style where multiple voices join in a dreamy rendition of the song as the music tries to break free, the burst of drums breaks down the riff and a blues element begins to shine in like memories from years before. A quick-stepping romp through upbeat sensibility and musings of something far away, the track sounds just like the summer. You can visit Mustard Service on Instagram and X
Juliet Lloyd
Wild Again Carnival She’s back at the top of the league after more than ten years away from the career she loves. When she released her last album back in 2007, USA-based pianist and singer Juliet Lloyd felt that she’d done all she could. Now she’s back in business with the passion and drive emerging in new and courageous ways. What began as a piano and song writing adventure has now matured into a fully-fledged music career with plenty of influences building a varied and unique journey. Her new album is called Carnival with Wild Again making itself known across the airwaves. A UK tour is on, with dates set for July at various snug and intimate venues around the nation. The single is written about the Orca from Free Willy. The whale was featured in a NY Times podcast about releasing him into the wild. The fact that marine experts were training him how to be wild was a strange paradox that only makes sense when you forget the usual meaning of the words. Change is often traumatic for people so we can imagine the orca experiencing stress as it learns to survive on its own. Is it a plain as black and white, or is the contrast only skin deep? What a Carnival. Let’s listen. An upbeat and memorable intro brings out a pop rhythm with a great funky bassline. Synthesiser tones jangle and chime with a sonic flurry of polyphonic dance as the song begins. Juliet Lloyd sings with a gorgeous voice. Her lyrics tell of a story in sweet and morish lines that hum with musical resonance. The harmonies expand with the opening of the lines as the moves take on verse to chorus momentum alongside choppy classic rock sensationalism within the design. The meaningful philosophy within the song takes us deeper into the mental picture while the easy-going and devilishly clever music composition carries us on like a live ocean current. Kety Fusco
She (Featuring Iggy Pop) BOHÈME Kety Fusco is preparing for a new album, titled BOHÈME, that will be released upon us this September. A beautiful soul of classical harp meets the modern sensibility as studio creativity and songwriting bring something evolved and second nature to the instrument. Teaming up with Iggy Pop for this latest single, the music is written as a love-song to the harp herself, the strings being plucked in loving caresses of mutual understanding. The music has already been exclusively played by the likes of Craig Charles, Riley & Coe, plus Radcliffe & Maconie on BBC Radio. With an audience more suited to the Royal Albert Hall than the backstreet bar, bringing Iggy Pop in for vocals was a genius move and one that makes her point even more relevant. The universality of the harp with its scope and voice, in the right hands, is something we’ve often been yet to notice. Notice this. A spacey sound array begins the track, spinning metal work and ambient drones. Then a voice breaks the atmosphere and piano and drum begin to cast the spell. Drifting characterisms of strange and charm revolve around the motif to bring out a motion we can follow. The harp begins to sparkle; luminous rivers of dappled sound adjust and eddy across the rhythmic production. Chosen notes bring abstraction and harmony within adjunct and juxtaposed offerings of sensation. The addition of Iggy Pop with his poetry and brief utterances offers a dreamy and memorable layer to the already massaging melody combination.
