The Near Jazz Experience
Tuba Cop London London’s The Near Jazz Experience are preparing their album launch as we speak, the new record will be called Tritone and contains today’s track, Tuba Cop. The record features the amazing skill of Jamiroquai’s Matt Johnson and Bowie keyboardist Mike Garson. Out on Peckham’s Dimple Discs on the 18th of July, the vinyl and CD options are collector pieces before they’re on the shelves. The digital album comes out on 27th of June so we can all get a good listen in before the post arrives. Comprised of Madness bassist Mark Bedford with Simon Charterton and Terry Edwards from The Higsons, who were made extra-famous when Robyn Hitchcock wrote a song about them, the level of experience and professionalism in this band is through the ceiling. Multi-instrumentalist Terry Edwards is known for playing two saxophones at the same time, which is something I’m sure we’d all like to see yet alone hear. Let’s get a blast of this Tuba Cop. Organic room drums open the music with a rattle and slosh rhythm that takes us into venues from yesteryear. Wind instruments and synth begin to curl outwards like a proboscis from colourful beating wings. The chunk of the bass digs deep holes in the mix as the harmonising chords from the synth reveal higher patters that adjacently twinkle. Swerves of wind then create an avenue of story in sonic form as the persuasive sensations enter the mind and create images of snooping around, looking for clues. The jazz feels are everywhere, from the pulse of the rhythm and the chitter chatter drumming to the chord selections and mosaic melodies that create pictures all their own. Spike Your Hair And Stay Hydrated With Teenage Bottlerocket Then Enjoy Their Post Mortem Depression26/6/2025
Teenage Bottlerocket
Post Mortem Depression Pirates Press Records Pop punk rockers Teenage Bottlerocket have been enriching the scene for years. From their base in Laramie, Wyoming, the central state brings central class with the frantic and musically uplifting staple from the veteran rock band. Written about death and with a concept of being depressed in the afterlife in the background, a sombre and reflective track surfaces among other more fun and light-hearted numbers. It’s good to get the full spectrum of drama on an album, and the band are waiting until the 15th of September to release theirs. It’s going to be a long summer, so we’d better stay alive and stay in good spirits. Let’s see the mortician. A 2, 3 on the cymbal brings out the chunky guitar and thumping drums. Bass crunches in the space between the power-chord and the kick drum before the music sets off with a song. Melody and energy combine in a duet of surging flow, like an electromagnetic function of emotion and action, the song reaches in and turns the dial. Introspective lyrics hammer down within loud and riptide-like surges of punk rhythm and snare snaps. A breezy quality in the lead guitar keeps a fascinating array of chops and licks going as the surge of the rhythm section maintains a continual push until the home run. Luke Marzec
Space To Be Free United Kingdom Inspired by roots and protest music, with a leaning towards Bob Marley and R&B, Britain’s fast-rising song-writing Luke Marzec reveals his latest single. Since the critically acclaimed debut EP Chances, Luke has gathered over 15 million Spotify streams for his work, which includes co-writing projects with people like Benjamin Francis Leftwich, VC Pines, Jazzanova, and Maverick Sabre. An ode to the things that capitalism erodes, like community, free lunches, peace of mind, creativity, and the luxury of downtime, Space To Be Free celebrates those unique opportunities that we receive on occasion where we can truly be ourselves. Even musicians have to fit the schedule, so let’s give him his reward. Put this track on and give it a couple of listens. Barbershop harmonies and plucky bass tones open the score with a memorable sound that we can enjoy with immediate effect. A swerve of tone and a rumble of drums then reveals a rock n roll old-school move into powerful vocals and plunging musical vibrancies. A retro sense of old-time disco fulfils the groove while brilliant composition leans out of the history book and into modern days as the pop music quality of the vocal takes eloquent dives into the modes and scales of the mood. It’s got something for everyone, Rod Stewart gruffness, a swing like The Wailers, and a musical prowess of Duke Ellington. We just need Space To Be Free, and now we have the soundtrack to our struggle. 16Volt
White Noise Metropolis Records Headed up by the veteran industrial musician Eric Powell, the long-standing US group 16Volt return after a 7-year break. I think we all need one of those. Their new record is from the album, out in a couple of days, called More Of Less. A scarcity phrase, the value goes up when the availability goes down, that 28 seasons of silence are sounding more attractive. White Noise is written about how our voices are so easily drowned out and relegated to a useless chatter among the rest. It doesn’t matter if you’re uttering prophecy or pro-tactics, if no-one is listening, It's not worth a penny. Attention is golden, and it’s my job to put your ears onto this latest number; hard and heavy, down and devilish, brutally bombastic, and ready when you’re brave enough. A buzzing ambience opens the track before a barrage of rhythms begin to churn the pulse. Bass, toms, and vocal sounds make a strange collage of persistence and percussion. The pace picks up with extra layers of drum and bass as the song begins in full. Distorted and spoken word voice carries across bouncing guitars and fiery riff work. A ferocious punch creates the chorus as the title of the track is repeated along blasting synths and bashful rolling drums. A breakdown reveals movements of distorted lead synth and guitar power-chord as the rhythms surge through meaty bars of thump and thunder. Coming Up Roses
Tired London Their new album and tour launches today, Friday 20th of June. Décollage, lift—off, hold on to your hats! The post-punk dream wave sounds of Coming Up Roses are embarking on a new journey. How Did We Fall So Far is the new LP, featuring singles Over Your Head, I’m In Bed, and today’s feature Tired. Out now on INH Records, the new record from the London-based four-piece takes on the uncomfortable to bring comfort. Perhaps a paradox, yet intriguing none-the-less, and perfect food for a shoegaze and post-punk adventure that’s filled with meaning. Fronted by vocalist and bass player Emily Sera, who moved to Britain from Singapore in 2022 alongside guitarist Darius Oon, the group is completed by Charlie Wilson on the other guitar and drummer Caleb Blake. It’s an exciting time and you can be part of the party by showing up to one of their gigs. Details at the end. Let’s hope you’re not too Tired. A surprisingly heavy riff begins the tune with a thumping bass that urges dancing. The kick drum and the bass guitar hit perfect pitch and time as the guitar roars with a desire to produce sound. Emily Sera sings, her voice is a carry off and fly style that leaps and jumps across the stave with expert accuracy. Soaring gusts of melodic crunch catch the sails of the song and thrust the words and emotions into clouding billows of sonic forces. A quality inbuilt within the musicians allows the band to truly enjoy their efforts with lots of power and playfulness. Grungy elements growl underneath a bonnet crafted into a rock n roll fairytale made of chrome. Skeetch
Sunny Side Punkerton Records With a drive to bring 90s Skate Punk nostalgia back to the front in an aerial 180 at the end of the pipe, the scene is brought back round again with Sunny Side. The German punk outfit Skeetch are reliving that time when Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was the game of choice and kids the world over were trying out their first ollie in the back yard. The sun was shining, and the birds were singing, you never got the drift of the jump maneuver and probably picked up a guitar instead. Maybe you’re one of those kinesthetic people who can make wood jump and twist with your ankles. It doesn’t matter if you can or you can’t when the soundtrack to a great day with your friends is back in business. Bringing the summer to a town near you, Skeetch present Sunny Side. A melodious and anthemic guitar riff begins the tune as the drums rev up the engine. A burst of passion pushes the pace, and the chords begin to chug in that classic punk sound. Shouty singing then takes control as harmonising lines work their magic with the thrashing snare rolls and crashing cymbal racks. A bursting rampage of powerchords and gruff projection hits the push of bass and drums to meet us somewhere in the 90s. So many great punk acts can be heard in the influence pool as the true-to-life band make sure to maintain a novel and self-similar sound. You can follow Skeetch on Instagram And TikTok |
