Veronica D’Souza
Canary Song Denmark What an icon, the fabulous Veronica D’Souza not only creates powerful and evocative songs for dance and pop fans around the world, but she also started a fashion brand. CARCEL was active until 2021 and partnered with women’s prisons in South America and Thailand to bring business, clothing and textile skills to vulnerable and disadvantaged people. The combination of expressive arts brings out a seriously luminous light from her story and soul that simply cannot be ignored. Her latest track has been on the wing for about a week now, and it’s high time it got a feature. Canary Song is a feminist anthem to encourage women the world over to keep going and to bring their own fire to the stage. Now sitting on the Danish Design Council and the Soulfuls’ board, Veronica has the ideal archetype to make a perfect impression on anyone who wants to rise to the top in vivid and bright glory. Break free from your cage and fly away with Canary Song. A mixing pot of beats begins the song as jumbled crumbles and snare crackle along to a steady electro bass. A synthesiser lead then emerges, sprinkling melody across the dancing pulse. Micro rhythms can be found hiding between the beats as breaks and repeated motifs develop in multifaceted ways. Veronica starts the verse; her voice is powerful and practiced. An operatic elegance decorates her pitch-perfect notes as extraordinary strength pushes the words forward. Story and feeling mix in the flow as the descriptions create a building image of elegance and fortitude. It’s laid-back yet bumps with a dance groove we can sink into. RnB elements and funky infectiousness give way to unocculted classiness that delivers. You can follow Veronica D'Souza on Instagram

Bastion Rose
Cinnamon Fire Bloomington Headed up by front-man Austin Frink, the Indiana-based five-piece rock band launch their second single from the upcoming Traces Of Gold LP. Trailblazing the sound in the wake of their impactful debut, Cinnamon Fire continues the forthright and feral energy of this dazzling group of talents. A song about being tempted by something, and the arguments between heart and head that ensue, Cinnamon Fire has been produced by David Bottrill. He’s got accolades with Tool, Muse, and Peter Gabriel, so Bastion Rose no-doubt have all the right moves and a pure sound that gets the attention of the top brasses. With over a million streams already for their handful of tracks, and a sound that’s been likened to Sabbath, Zeppelin, and Soundgarden, Cinnamon Fire draws us in and crackles with excitement. Let’s listen. A crunch of guitar brings out vocal oohs as the crumbly distortion reveals chord and gradual melody. The riffs push through viscous rock n roll energy as the song breaks free from the syrup of sound. Pianos add a new vibrancy to the mix as the vocal projection shifts to sound like Scissor Sisters or Maroon 5. Gruff and fiery guitar work thrusts a blues metal pipe through the topsoil of moving parts, drums, bass, and lead licks jostle for space as the infrastructure of the music digs in. It’s sexy and swaggering, the musicians almost strut from the stereo as they deliver this classy and musically inventive twist on classic rock. Your Future Ghost
I’m Like Money Impatient For The Dream A seriously talented pair of stage stars, Your Future Ghost reveal themselves in the guise of great sounding album. Synth-pop, rock, and experimentica decide for themselves among the secluded atmospheres and moving particles of this cutting-edge sound. Impatient For The Dream stands alone as the album to be listened to and with a perfect pairing of gifted musicians and actors making the machine, the scope could be almost endless. With the star-draped voice of Kate Voegele, and her Billboard-charting writing abilities, the undiluted skills of composer, producer, and songwriter Michael Grubbs are put perfectly into place. About finding a niche and a place to thrive in a post-apocalyptic world, our modern sensibilities are put to the test as we take in this musical adventure. Here’s the single, I’m Like Money. It begins with a drama; a group of people walk into a dusty town. Before we know what’s going on, a giant woman walks up and peers in. It’s Kate Voegele, and her voice begins the song. Music envelopes the words as synthesiser harmonies soar over one another and drum riffs overlap and keep the pulse. The music builds as the vocal intensifies, a boundary setting and back off kind of track, it’s a good release for frustration. An exciting video matches up with a monumental song that’s full of empowerment and self-actualisation. The upbeat, pop rock composition of I’m Like Money sits well in its throne of female-fronted confidence. You can follow Kate Voegele on Instagram And you can follow Your Future Ghost on Instagram
Sexsomnia
Forbidden (Shadow Mix) Montreal Alive and kicking since 2021, the avant-garde post-punk trio Sexsomnia have been laying out their upbeat dreary vision along singles, EPs, and a show stopping album. Since the release of last year’s Transcendent, the full-length record on the French label Manic Depression Records, Sexsomnia have gone back to the studio to bring another volley of darkwave and electro-goth from shade to reality. Philip Faith, the bassist, programmer, and vocalist of the group has used his Moog Minitaur, ACCESS Virus T1, VSynth, plus a bunch of analogue devices to create a darkly Shadow Mix for this title track. Featuring the vocals of Stridulum’s Marita Volodina, the track has been produced with a dreamcore style video made by editing some old arty photoshoot footage and putting it to music. It’s like stepping into another reality. Check it out. A grinding industrial rhythm opens the track with mechanical sounds melding with thudding percussion. A digitised vocal then speaks in a dominatrix-esque tone before a throbbing bass riff hits. Bubbling undertones vibrantly jibe at the rhythm as the bass icks along the passageway in ample and bounding steps. Marita Volodina continues with her commanding presence, moving her lyrics through snaking twists of melody and mesmerism. A sense of gloom and shadow fills the air, and the jostle of percussive sounds weld to strange and eerie chunks of atmosphere that glisten like machine oil over the hardware. Dramatic and dirge-like, a sinister world of gothic electronica spins before your ears. Get music by Sexsomnia on Bandcamp You can follow Sexsomnia on Facebook And Instagram
The Bitter Mass
Anywhere Girl United Kingdom Three friends who grew up together in tight-knit working-class South Leeds are now living fully-fledged lives up and down the country. The Bitter Mass haven’t forgotten where they came from though, and they continue to create from that place of honesty, integrity, and face-value that separates graft from grift. This new song is about how different personality types bring about challenges without anyone being at fault. There are people who like to stay where they are, look for security and stability, and then there are those who want to be loose-footed and never tied down to a routine or location. Both people are normal and natural, but relationships between them can be anything but. This is a song about a girl who, for better or worse, can find her home anywhere. She’s the Anywhere Girl. A smooth keyboard tone opens the music as an 80s pop feel bubbles from the vibrant bass and frilled guitars. Reggae rhythms meet rock n roll as the music lifts and builds with piano, guitar, and drums. The vocal hits with absolute clarity. Beautifully poised words sit atop the bars in shining luminance, and the story unfolds. Harmony in the chorus gives way to shattering emotions as we realise the one we enjoyed spending so much time with is about to find somewhere new. The emptiness left behind as we imagine ourselves being someone we don’t want to be and doing what we can to move on from the hurt by appreciating each of our own individualities.
