Paris Directed by Anastasja Black With former members of Heymoonshaker and Catfish, Dead Chic present the lead single from their forthcoming album. Directed by Anastasja Black, Paris is made to run like an old Spaghetti Western. Filmed in the Spanish desert, the video shows the adventures of the cast as they battle their own demons. After forming when touring musicians Andy Balcon and Damien Félix met and sparked a friendship, the band released their first single back in 2022. Now with Rémi Ferbus and Mathis Akengin to complete the line-up, the band are ready to take on the scene once again with even more new material. As we wait for the album, we get to know a bit of Paris. A rising semblance of sounds abstractly bursts into the silence before the calm and progressive, clean guitar adds a genuine flow. Sliding notes and chord picked patterns fling the tune outward as the vocals begin the graceful mosey into the foreground. A frill and tremolo greet the breezy chords as the melody reaches into the familiar scales used so often by cowboys. Who knows what shenanigans they have been planning and escaping from, tipping hats and leaving hoofprints in the transient sand. A blues and rock feel shimmers from the mirage of sun hitting the quartz in infinite angular diversity. A fantastic progressive sense of motion keeps us going as the music adds the pressure with emotive and musical intensity. We can take ourselves into the world of yesterday, the feel of raw denim on rippling hide, meeting our match and striking the deal. The Giraffes
Pipes New York Hitting us square in the ears with a ferocious and wild protest tune, Brooklyn’s The Giraffes tell the world about the Flint Water Crisis. Pipes is a song that spells it out in emotional detail so that everyone can learn from these mistakes and be inspired to be better next time. Many towns in the US, especially in rural areas, rely on antiquated underground infrastructure. These pipes tend to leak and allow various seepages into the supply. It’s a common issue when old machines break down, not having the ability to fix them is the real problem. It seems that in Flint Michigan, this is exactly what happened, and no one seemed to care. I’m almost willing to write a song myself, I think we all know that feeling of despair. Let’s leave it to the professionals this time, here is The Giraffes. A rush of feedback and distortion wails as the drummer kicks off the music. A punky snare-driven rhythm hammers down as the guitars pulsate with funky timings and kinetic chord choices. A shouted vocal section takes control, smashing through the sounds with a rhythmic and Rage Against The Machine style insistency, gruff and emotive lines keep us fixated. The grunge guitar sound leaps around like a frantic fish on a line as the persistent music sprints onward through the brambles and into the beyond. With a mixed heritage of African, Indian, and Danish, the tapestry of influences and stories that makes her unique is surely beyond one of a kind. Her May release Just Because A Crush turned all the right heads and made its way into The Line Of Best Fit and Wonderland Magazine. Maybe being featured in Sound Read Six is just as exciting, but it doesn’t matter if it isn’t as the music does all the work for me and, as always, makes this publication worth way more than words. Veronica D’Souza opens the music with her synonymous voice. Style and character drink deep like a beautifully bottled wine, mellow tones with subtle hints of fire breathe over the graceful tones that rise. Rhythm and tune envelope the singer as the groove hits a cabaret jive atmosphere, jazzy influences join with a bluesy sense of moody introspection. A unique journey of progression takes us to a new motion with each turning of the chorus, handclaps and repeating melodies dance with inventive sections and leaps from the usual, giving D’Souza the edge that cuts our fabric precisely. Madafaka Freakz Me Out Records The hardcore electronica creator of mysterious ways from Türkiye returns with yet more brash and confident sounds. He’s always working on something new and keeps us entertained with the dynamic and punchy intensity he manufactures on demand. Taking up the flow with Ils Ilis and teaming up with cinematographer Omer Aslan and director Aylin Aslan, Smitech Wesson and co have brought us this fantastic art video set to their latest unique composition. Featuring the exquisite İlayda İpekçi as the central dancer and the masked companions Murat Çelik and İlsuhan İlisulu, here is Madafaka. It begins with a twisting scratch beat that builds into digital tones and static. Odd and angular sounds combine to form a steady pulse of abstraction as the drums reach into the foreground. A sudden burst of fizz and power then pushes the whole sound into a dancing frenzy. Computer sounds and sampled vocals merge with elastic syns and sparkling percussion. Zaps and blips hold the pulse together as the mechanical electronica whizzes and crumbles within the predetermined sections. Constant inventive flow keeps the music fresh through the bars as the evolution progresses into realms of heavy dance and sonic impressionism.
