No Arrival
Godspeed From Chase Bricolage Records New music from Glasgow's No Arrival always comes veiled in delicious secrets. A musical maverick in his genre, the escapism and intrigue offered through electronic hues of genuine sound reverberate through an evolving entourage of albums. The third has just been issued for pre-order on the giganous Bricolage to which three tracks of ten are reverently released for our enjoyment and appraisal. Glasgow is fast becoming an international treasure for the quality of its musical culture with independent and mould-breaking shapes aptly becoming archetypes of their own. First track Godspeed opens with vibrant depths captured within resonant drums. They slosh in a talkative motif as sonic architecture forms synonymic scatters in the wake of tone. Dashing snares then collapse from invisible heights to join the flow as tributaries rise to meet graceful rivers. The evocative progression leans in with rousing bass that begins to slenderly fathom among the joining pressure-points. An immediacy within the rhythm keeps us attentive as the atomising concepts of rolling thunder course within sweeping haars that crumble inland. Karamelien Lionhearts United Kingdom Following from their swanky Ascension Heights, which was featured in Sound Read Six at the time, the UK-based pop band for grown-ups smash out the sophomoric. Lionhearts once again was produced by RIDE frontman Mark Gardener at Oxford's OX4 Sound. With a conveyor belt of despair in the news and often online, Karamelien wanted to change the record by making their own. Lionhearts points to the love and togetherness that still resonates around the world despite the focus of those still afflicted. The track is made with a brilliant video that was lovingly made by Eveshka Ghost. An airy melody swiftly envelopes us as the first few bars begin. Guitar and drum mix with a sensual bass as Léanie Kaleido enters with her beautiful voice. Lyrics about turning off the TV and changing focus to the positive vibe with the flowing rhythm that laps like epic waters reaching out into beyond. Standing side by side, the Lionhearts keep the good times coming as a refreshing and dream-inspiring mix of tones circulate like the procession of relaxing waters. Originally called The Vernon's the Liverpool band was formed during the 1980s. Now with their new album along with their new name, the group that brought us Smithdown Road back in 1990 are working their way back to where they belong. Having bashed out a lot of great tunes in the past few years and made them work with the audience, the album is made from these prominent and recent compositions. Now living between London and Oxford, the band that formed before the internet became a music tool are perfectly adapted to this new genre of communication. Their lead song from the album, Call To Arms, is described as a plea to save the planet. A melodic lead guitar brings out a sunny riff as the drumming lays down a groove we can get with. Vocals enter with a punk vibe that sits like The Smiths or Tears for Fears. An energetic and raw guitar sound cushions out the rock atmosphere with escapist breaks of lead. Harmony with layers of vocal bring the chorus out from the pattern as the structure repeats then leaps into a crescendo at the end. Call To Arms is a fantastic drive of upbeat brit-rock that makes us feel at home. That's thanks to Madonna's daughter, Estere Ciccone, who covered their 2003 hit Bang Bang Bang Bang for a viral TikTok video during the pandemic. With swathes of new generation fans immediately picking up on the track, the group made a sudden resurgence before hitting 100 million Spotify streams and a Billboard Top 50 slot. That's the power of youth in one example. The band are known for drawing on BDSM themes and exhibit a sexy and seductive allure alongside their catchy and hook laden tunes. Letter To My Ex sits back to back with Bang Bang Bang Bang and, as their new record, is said to be the perfect song for a breakup. It begins with an immediate vocal that's matched with a groovy synth vibe. The story of words draw images of sensual scenes as the music grows with the passion. A bass drops as the drums kick in then an orchestration of tune lifts as the chorus enters on the perfect bar. A dancing energy summons the flow as bass wanders in melodic passages to the beat of smooth and intuitive drumming. The song keeps moving as the verses create layer upon layer of image that fit like silky sheets over a mattress of funky bass and astral synths. MuRli & Elaine Mai Ready Ireland With solid dance floor foundations and an eager eye for the cosmic infinite beyond, this companionship of composers both know how to raise the roof. With millions of streams between them, both MuRli and Elaine Mai are headline acts in their field and beyond. Thanks to the All Together Now party, event firm Jameson Connects challenged the pair to create a piece that could be performed fully live on the final night of the bash. Not one to shy away from an opportunity, neither MuRli or Elaine Mai had any regrets about taking on the task. Unifying lyricism and electronic escapism through their combined talents, the award-winning vocal skills of MuRli add extra vibrancy to the anthemic and crowd-pleasing style we love about Elaine Mai. The track begins with a throbbing bass that scoops into the gut as spoken word sections describe the feelings around making the track. It's an interesting micro-documentary that inventively opens the music for us. A repeating vocal and a kick bass begins to add flow to the soundtrack. A repeating guitar melody creates an interesting sonic shape that rotates and shines in the space created by the wall of bass and voice. Melody sails over the choppy waves and enters tranquillity as synths build from within. A reaching hand of sound climbs the heavens as the rhythm returns along with the guitar to add layer upon layer between the exploratory vocals.
