Peter Manning Robinson
Initiation Los Angeles Now with his third single, Initiation, Peter Manning Robinson explores sound, movement, and visual art. The video features the talented Lydia McDonald, a modern dancer of repute. It also features the painter Mariia Menshikova, adding craft and form to the flow of music and choreography. A piece about how grief can lead to new beginnings, and the pain of loss becomes the fulcrum for change, Initiation is a deep and introspective but altogether reaffirming work. The inventor of Refractor Piano (TM), and a critically acclaimed vegan chef, Peter Manning Robinson is a multi-BMI award winner, and he also has an Emmy. Having worked in film score composition with several world-class orchestras, turning his crosshairs to the pop chart is a new adventure. Even so, he has already amassed over 2.6 million streams to date. Enjoy this video. Sombre tones of the pianist shine with damp sensations as rainfall on turning leaves. The melody grows, evolves, and takes root in the phrasing which gradually repeats and reappears in new clothes. The wandering notes come back to reassess the passages with new dimensions of through, and the charming direction of progression takes the pitch to greater chances. A settling down captures the breather, where the energy is best restored before another surge of personal growth naturally awaits. Adler, Liljegren, Stigsson
The Kingdom Retroactive Records Members of the legendary 90s Christian metal scene Adler, Liljegren, and Stigsson from Leviticus, XT, Narnia, DivineFire, and Jerusalem, wanted to put an album together. That was 30 years ago. They never stopped working on the record; however, it seemed that God had other plans for quite a while. The parables are full of people waiting around for years with nothing but good intentions. The Kingdom has finally been produced and released, and with only a few hundred limited edition physical copies to go around, who can tell if you’ll get one? Act fast. Out on Retroactive in the USA and Melodic Passion in Sweden, the Adler, Lilgegren, Stigsson compendium takes everything metal and puts faith-based ideas in for extra power. You’re right, it’s not for everybody, think of it as fantasy if you don’t buy into religion. The title track of the record is an epic 5-minute belter, as the sun has recently risen here in England, it’s time to give it a spin. A roll of powerful drums launches the song, and then fantastic power-metal guitars and epic symphonic keys bring the goods. A vocal holler, a riff fest, and then the first verse. Melodic, clean vocals with a raspy emotion behind them, the metal is set to maximum. The power chords and the quick snare-roll heavy drumming is sheer power metal, and with the chorus, harmonies and triumphant synths bring the epic orchestral quality to the front. Lyrics about Christ’s return dominate the song, it’s praise, it’s adoration, and it’s a well-understood fear of divine power. Don’t mess with the best. The desire to bring Heaven to Earth is strong, don’t just stand there, get busy. ADAM Music Project
Red Dead Reckoning Jacksonville A liquid metal band, the fluid nature of Florida’s ADAM Music Project ensures fresh and intriguing sounds with every turn. Today they’re spinning Red Dead Reckoning. Their previous release FAME reached the lofty heights of the TOP Ten Mainstream / Active Rock Radio chart. That’s not a minor accolade; it means their song gets more radio play on commercial rock and mainstream radio stations than most. Their latest offering takes us into outlaw country, where wind swept dusty trails lead to nowhere and little homesteads are hideouts for bandits. A heavy rock epic with a video game style story, Red Dead Reckoning keeps the heat on high with all the sunbaked leather and denim you want. Centred around the musical chemistry of long-term collaborators Adam DeGraide and Dameon Aranda, AMP find talent and skill from across the game-world and beyond to keep their momentum effervescent. Regular faces in the group include luminaries of stage and studio such as Lacy Saunders, Brandon Frazier, Hartleigh Buwick, and Pete Mitchell. Time to get on your horse and take a proper look at the world around you. Are you ready? It bursts in with drums, guitar, and vocal. Gruff and energetic, the voice is gritty and frosted with fire. The guitar is distorted, heavy, thick with melodic blues, and the bass just pumps with a drummer's accuracy and a dentist’s indifference to distress. It surges forward like the power of a mount, a four by four, or something in between. The heavy metal blues curls like serpents on mahogany, setting fire to paper money like a spiritual salamander. It’s a classic sounding work that doesn’t have to be a soundtrack to gaming, but you know it ought to be. A Shoreline Dream
20 Latenight Weeknight Records It’s been two decades since their debut record, Avoiding The Consequences got under the skin of the dark art-music scene in Colorado and beyond. A Shoreline Dream have since been in motion with sonic evolution and intellectual growth across their career. As the next album prepares to enter the stage, the single 20 is warming us up. They released their first new single earlier on, Legacy delved into the epic nature of the last twenty years. 20 takes a turn to the looking glass and examines the passage of time and the irretrievable pages turned, burned, or scribbled out. When Ryan Policky and Eric Jeffries formed A Shoreline Dream in 2005, they were looking for a specific post-punk shoe-gaze tartan that flashes with feeling and vision. Having become steady entries, themselves, and with collaboration accolades with the likes of Ulrich Schnauss, members of Engineers and Chapterhouse, plus Rocket Girl Records and more, this feels like the start of their hard-earned tenure. With a hazy video starring Julianna Beckert, this is 20. A heavy drum kicks open the scene with a thick snare led delivery; hats jostle within. The guitar shimmers, radiates, and glows with brightness like the sun. Everything swings into a fascinating glitter of fantasias and prescience. A vocal calls, the distorted wall of harmony gives space, the flagship voice dreamily carries outward like dragon flags let loose atop the battlements. The heavy grunge sense of punch is spread out like butter on toast with the wide expanse of sound produced. The layers, the effects, the abandon, it’s a head trip of the better kind. Assemblage 23
Believe (INHALT Remix) Metropolis Records Tom Shear, the US-based synthpop and industrial figurehead known globally as Assemblage 23 is on the road. His elemental fusion of distinctive digital sounds and catchy, mood-lifting rhythms helped to define the Future Pop sound that was born of the new millennium. Assemblage 23 have mostly sold out their shows, but the music is just as ripe as ever, ready for picking. This latest design is a remodelling of Believe. The keys were handed over to INHALT, the moniker of US-based producer Matia Simovic. Believe is the opening track from Null, the latest Assemblage 23 album that fans are already immortalising. The mk. 2 of Believe has been given a fresh sound and look, elements of the 80s are given access to the future and allowed to have fun. That’s an analogue for a lot of us. Let’s go. A slosh of rhythms mingle in an almost house-beat rhythm. Functional percussion offers shifting tonality and a subtle orchestration within the backbone. The synths rise, vocals join, and the familiar Assemblage 23 sound takes control. The inventive backdrop of splendid rhythm crafting punches through the veil of familiarity as the chorus and verse grab our attention. Squishy synth and chunky thump bass fling their motives in opposite directions as the vocals progress into the harmony and pulsing bass. The break, the pause, and the resurgence of rhythm and melody. A catchy insistency keeps us pinned to the rhythm as the lyrics rinse through the framework in passages of garnished meaning. The Pixel Rain
Glitching Sky London It’s almost time for their highly anticipated album; A Sense of Danger hits the airwaves on October 29th. To keep us in the mood, the industrial electronic act from London’s night scene The Pixel Rain give us Glitching Sky. Their futurepop elements bring in influences from the likes of VNV Nation and Chvrches. With a catchy and rock music-based atmosphere filled with synthesiser and layer, The Pixel Rain bring their EBM and synthpop sounds to virtual reality. Glitching Sky centres on a character who creates a more powerful version of themselves in a virtual world. When the illusion begins to fade, the whole sky seems to fall. It’s got a mesmerising video made by Sophie Maria Vickers and speaks to a little part of those who use social media like an elaborate soliloquy. Billowing synth tones create an upbeat atmosphere then drums add their rhythmic layer. It’s energetic and melodic, after a few more bars the bass tones join in. Depth and chord like, the undercarriage rolls along the tarmac at accelerating speed. Aron begins to sing and the songcraft take off. The pulse rises; it simmers on a low hear that gradually grows as the chords and bass swirl and mingle within the gel. The words build, the sound of the voice rises from the matress of churning harmonies and then floats back down to let the music demonstrate the point. A progressive surge follows, and the song builds with rolling digi-toms and pumping bass while the vocal soars on aquiline currents that lift. Whitecross
Basta (Enough is Enough) Retroactive Records When Whitecross guitarist Rex Carroll discovered a YouTube video of one of his songs being performed in Spanish, by the talented Romina Barba, he knew exactly what must be done. The Argentinian singer gave the music an extra layer of quality that only another language could deliver. After getting in touch, Romina said she’d love to sing more Whitecross material, the only problem is that the music tracks without vocal were not available. She could duet with Dave Roberts, their usual singer, but not perform her own unique rendition of the heavy metal classics. Rex set about rectifying the situation by isolating, locating, and rediscovering studio material, out-takes, and music parts that never got permanently mixed down. Preparing a selection of classic songs for her, Romina set about putting her magic to good use. The album is an exciting way to offer the songs to an even wider audience and to put new subtle meaning into their lyrics. From the Legado de Fuego Classicos en Espanol, which is limited to 300 special edition copies and contains a completely original track, this is the revisit of Enough Is Enough, Basta. The guitars launch in; they carry the same classic metal energy you need. Romina enters, the shift in sensation is tangible, yet so natural it makes total sense. Her fiery delivery translates the sentiment in perfect poetry, as the guitars launch into licks and riff echoes from left to right. The drumming just keeps coming, no relent from any of the band as the collective sound ripples into new dimensions. If you know the original then the cover works, if you don’t then it makes you want to hear it. The way it flows from line to line feels so fluid, a searing flow of heated guitar and artillery vocals throbs like a shockwave rattling the houses. Whitecross plus. Samuel Virgo
Slip Away London Born in Sheffield, raised in London, Samuel Virgo has a broad understanding of the English soul. From that foundation, he conjures moving and captivating pieces of music that explore the human condition in all its forms. His latest single is Slip Away. Written about finding love and then losing your old self to the current of energy that pulls you in, when the tide goes out will you know where you are? He brings out an indie hip-hop and post-punk fusion that illustrates an intimate and outward looking consciousness. He’s working up to his new EP, from which this single is taken, and he’s bound to put it on the road soon after. Samuel Virgo has performed across many venues including The Finsbury and Temple of Art and Music. Having been given plenty of airplay by BBC Introducing Sheffield, and with a music credit on the BBC Three series Boarders, Sam doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. Even after Slip Away. A vibrant drum sound bursts open like flowers as the bass rumbles in behind. Samuel Virgo begins to sing. His deep and expressive voice resonates with the craft of bass that shimmers within the mix. The story begins to form; his words drip like golden treacle drizzled over glazed cakes. Mellow, laid back, and charged with emotions that stitch right back to the soul, a gently hitched speech and imposing pauses give way to gentle reassurances along with the twist of reality that never disappears. Bad With Phones
Freedom Featuring Freddy Fordidden London His new EP has just surfaced in the middle of the Thames like a streetwise submarine coming up for air. The top door opens with a clang and out steps the slightly awkward form of Bad With Phones and The Man Who Eats Metal Meet. The professional bass player and music producer revels in his glitched hip hop chill zone, and that’s where his music grows into bountiful fruits. Inspired by artists like Basquiat and Grace Jones, Bowie and Sade, Bad With Phones emanates with soul, realism, and true-to-life perspectives that are born from the places where the sun only shines some of the time. Featuring Freddy Forbidden, the latest single from the record is Freedom. It’s well earned, a lot of us are bad with phones, but there is only one archetype. Here he is. A funky bass line opens the piece; it has a scratchy distortion that puts friction on the track. Bass synths and drums then add more flow, the melody remains within a select few notes like a classic rock or hip-hop under layer. The top arrives as Bad With Phones and Freddy Forbidden begin to add their tones. The lyrical cleverness washes across in lines of verb and story. A catchy chorus tops the ice cream with a cherry as the repeated word Freedom pushes the intent home. As Freddy Forbidden takes over, his deeper voice digs a little further into the track, laying down some serious concrete for the flyover. There it goes, electric guitar, flings and flurries of blues and rock cap the song with a delivery cut slightly short for effect. Follow Bad With Phones on Instagram And TikTok PS.
