You Are Free To Do As We Tell You Ransom Note Raising funds for victims of the devastating floods in Spain, Ransom Note Records release Amor i Ritme: Valencia Relief Fundraiser. It’s a huge multi-artist record with 27 musicians and bands putting their work on this release. The whole record makes use of some of Spain’s best electronic music makers plus draws in talent from the international scene. Comprising of electro, EBM, techno, ambient, industrial, house, and much more, Amor i Ritme: Valencia Relief Fundraiser puts a lot of thought and care from many fascinating angles of sound into their social relief effort. The record was made with the guidance of Spanish artists Orion Agassi and Luishock plus with the help of Pili Rodriguez. Unifying genres, labels, and artists into one effort of cumulative good-will is a huge task however with something as tangible as the after-effects of killer floods, the wheels turn easily. One of the tracks from this album is You Are Free To Do As We Tell You from People You May Know. I wonder what it sounds like? A house-stye rhythm opens the package with chewy underscores of bass that plucks in vibrant funk motions. The drumming elevates and the bass increases its scope in a unique fulfilment of the intro. New layers of dancing melody enter on the low end, spiralling beats continue to dapple the sides with penetrating hats and jagged snare. Raindrop like synths then begin the squeak and drip through various openings in the mix, lending a loose and damp sensation to the electronic and swirling program. Oscillator voices begin to chirp like retro birds in black and white animation as eerie atmospheres roll in from the distant colourful mountains. A strange and percussive landscape manifests via stretching bars of repetition and evolution, hypnotic and intuitive, the depth of the design is worth exploring several times. Blue Foundation
As I Moved On Denmark Written about unhooking oneself from destructive relationships, reassessing the reality of individuals and their attitudes towards you based on facts can sometimes leave us little choice. Blue Foundation are one of those groups that seem to get everywhere. They’ve collaborated with some huge names like DJ Krush, Jonas Bjerre of Mew, and Erika Spring of Au Revoir Simone. They’ve also made it into various films and TV like Miami Vice and Vampire Diaries. Recorded live earlier this year at the world-famous Royal Danish Theatre, As I Moved On from the phenomenal Blue Foundation gets a live version single release. Finding that unique energy that exists between the synergy of crowd and creator and putting what remains of it down onto format for the rest to enjoy is a key part of a band’s repertoire. We all love the live version. Here it is. A wave of beautiful vocal washes over a body of synth and bass as strings reach out from the amalgam. A launch of emotion rises from the bubbling textures as a pinpoint of sound becomes the lead voice. Guitars and bass thump and shimmer behind the flow of song as the band courses on the gradual wave of resolution. The melody changes, duet vocals add shiver to the sensation and the gravity of the band hits hard with an extra layer of distortion. The moving story of shifting sounds with folk and rock joins the river like tributaries of sunkissed gold, a fire burns within the heart of the laidback piece, radiance and energy holds tight as the focus and alignment becomes one more distant point of light. Spark Of Life
No One Hates Me More Than Me New Age Records In Southern California, the heavy-duty post-hardcore soundsmiths prepare to release their latest LP, Plagued By The Human Condition. Expected in the early new year, we can enjoy a taster of what’s to come in the form of this new single. Out on New Age Records, No One Hates Me More Than Me dives right into the deepest and darkest feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy that can riddle even the brightest of minds. Id overload or subconscious self-destructiveness alike can leave us personally feeling overwhelmed and at the mercy of our automatic selves. For those who externalise instead of internalise, perhaps it’s even worse? These kinds of songs are not meant to be played at a children’s party, they’re here to help us explore our emotions and appreciate the complexity of what other people might be feeling. Art in musical form, with 25 years of experience behind them, Spark Of Life offer a piping hot flue filled with pure channelled feeling. Fiery distorted guitars bring on the noise as the chords shove the feeling into the middle. Feedback sustain lingers for a moment before the band kicks in with the fast drumming and manic riffs. The vocals reach out at full stretch, packaging the bars in ample colour and vibrancy, each section moves effortlessly past and makes way for new sounds. The guitar chords surge through the brambly creativity with new vibes and repeating phrases mixing up in a stir of sound and uplift. A ruckus punk attitude launches the song forward time after time as the drumming hits hard and the band break through barrage after barrage with galloping virility. Metal (Gary Numan cover) Chicago The darkwave alternative duo from Chicago have been pulling Metal out of the hat at their live shows for a while now. The Gary Numan track is a splendid addition to the vibe with the artist’s gothic industrial image feeling right at home in the city of big shoulders. Releasing the track as a new single gives everyone the chance to enjoy the [melter] version anytime they like. With their own twist on the music and an alternative delivery from frontwoman Jax Allos, Metal gets a new cutting-edge facet with this modern take on the 1979 classic. The music gets the proper treatment at every stage, having become second nature to the band, then mixed and mastered byWilliam Faith at 13 Studio. It also gets a neat video that combines live footage from Rishi Productions and Video Waste which captures the energy the song delivers when it gets rolled out at their mind-bending shows. Are you going to watch it or what? Rhythmic synths begin the melody. The familiar tune reaches in with digital vibrancy and robotic sensations. A symphony of instrumentation then collapses down with harmonious bass end and trippy drums that splatter and thump. The vocals begin, telephone distortion curdles the voice as the lines spill one by one. The synths merge with the lyrics to elevate and fill their emotional relevancy. Computer sounds and fizzy bandwidth distortion leaves us feeling like it’s 1995 and we’re picking up radio from the next city across. A swirling mass of sounds continues to throb and evolve within the familiar framework of the song. Bouncing rhythms and surging synths offer a lush and ethereal lights-out journey. From the new album, The Love Was All We Had which is out on December the 6th, this is We Are Bodies with Dancing In The Midnight Howl. A rumble of atmosphere breaks into a fast drum and tone drift that carries us into the tranquillity of the moment. A spacious reverb hangs gently in every corner as the synthesiser pulses in melodic frames. The lyrics begin, a picturesque view on the world that vibes with the subtle electronica layered within the groove. A Pet Shop Boys meets The Cure double helix of evolution finds its way into the unique and spell-binding journey of windswept guitar lead and throbbing bass kick. Kurt Baker
Inner Demons Madrid Stepping off the tour bus with a long line of satisfied Spanish power pop fans behind him, the prolific Kurt Baker returns to the studio sound with Inner Demons. He’s a true veteran of the power pop and punk rock scene; the uplifting and free-spirited vibe the genre provides feels right at home with Kurt’s upbeat personality and thoughtful agenda. With a home on Little StevenVan Zandt’s Wicked Cool Records, Kurt Baker continues to experiment with songwriting ideas and concepts that bring the people together and send them away with lots to think about. Originally titled Keep Wishing, the track we now know as Inner Demons by Kurt Baker has been in the process for a while, with the final version making an appearance shortly after the release of his recent LP. With a choppy guitar riff, the music barrages through the double doors on stilts of amplitude and distortion. With a sway of the rhythm, Kurt Baker enters with his signature power punk voice. Swagger and artitude bring the business as the power-chords rip up the track and drums pounce on every bar. Pinning down the devil has been a worthy journey; the evolution of the song gives it a well-polished and classic rock feel that bounces off the walls in traditional noughties rock style. A leaning back to the late 80s punch greets modern and fresh musicianship and studio work that culminates in a fantastic drive through upbeat and enjoyable sentiments.
