Thread Filthy Pretty Records They’re getting bigger and wilder with every release. Sohodolls are back with Thread, the latest single to push their brand even further than before. We’re all waiting for the album, which is in the works and will be out very soon. Before then, we are treated to yet more music to throw us into the mood. Singer Maya von Doll reveals that she wrote the track in Nashville with the help of Tony Esterly. He’s a big name in the studio scene with production, songwriting, and mixing skills neatly packaged for those who find them. During their meteoric climb through the various charts, Sohodolls have been inundated with praise and press with every move they make. It’s fantastic that their people have sent more to Sound Read Six to feature, alternative pop and monumental artistry, there’s always something entertaining going on. A spooky little motif opens the music as Maya von Doll begins to sing. Her voice daintily dances on the invisible notes, manifesting them into being with every verb. A bass, drum, and synth build then hits. A dancing pulse pushes the ignition of the tune, the vocal melody continues like a magical conduction of the moment. A chorus brings new notes, a slight shift in the pace of the lyrics and a catchy vibe that massages the rhythmic flow, Thread from Sohodolls is a soundtrack of a song, bringing imagery and fantasy to the mind as it progresses with grace. Dragon Welding
Up And Away Dimple Discs Leading the way for their recently released Up And Away EP, the title track is beautifully presented with a stunner of a video. A taster of next year’s album, The Naughty Step, let’s get on our best behaviour and pay genuine attention to this hard-won musical prelude. Formed by Andrew Golding of The Wolfhounds, the anagramic Dragon Welding hit the scene in 2019. Since then, we’ve had a generous run of output to enjoy with Lights Behind The Eyes and Fictionary making waves in the vinyl and on the socials. This time, the new EP and its highlight number push the party vibe a little higher as the month of December runs its festive course. This new record marks a new chapter in the workings of Dragon Welding, as the hero of the day during an unforeseen replacement situation, vocalist Nik Cockshott of The Spores and The Keatons joins the sound to offer another angle to the already glistening and complex edge of the band. A bleeping and quick rhythm begins as the tune rises in a computerised voice. The vocals begin, a crystal clear and brit-pop style delivery brings a pop-punk sense to the otherwise electronic compendium. A rising pressure manifests as the verse brings a pulsing upwards spiral until electric guitars rip open the paper and let the chorus sing the line we all want to join in with. Taking steps and doings reps, a great track for activity or psyching yourself up for something important, the fun and anthemic Up And Away from Dragon Welding catches the moment and makes it even more real. Black Swan (But I Know There Is More To Life) Orden Records The title track from the forthcoming February new album, Black Swan from Pink Turns Blue is out now. Checking the list of what life has to offer, with beauty and emotion as well as material and social gain, Black Swan allows us to examine the diaspora of alternative perception outside of the taxman’s ideal. You know they want us to hand over our lives to the gods of revenue and sacrifice a percentage as tithes to the government. Clearly, we owe them something for the fact we’re living in an educated, policed, and functioning society, but do we sacrifice the benefits of being alive? Formed in Berlin during 1985, Pink Turns Blue recently have been touring the States and Europe to promote their 2022 album Tainted. Decisively alike to post-punk icons such as Joy Division, Interpol, and Bauhaus, their Berlin Wall era background brings a suddenness and polarism to their creative delivery. Sombre keys begin to enchant with repeating vibes and subtle melodic flow. A resonance hides within the mix as roomy spaciousness reveals human qualities. The voice enters. Mic Jogwer haunts with solemn tones and mesmerising poetry. An electric guitar rises to meet the keyboard, bass and drums crash though as the passion in the song moves from one end of the scale to the other. New melodies surface, guitar pulses rise from the tension and release emotional dance energy that holds on tight. The vocal carries us through, a uniform story of progressive meaning takes the music as it rises and falls like waves felt during dramatic realisations. Sea of Eyes (Featuring Alexander Hackett) Little Cloud Records The wait is over, Pete International Airport is back in business and the tunes are taking off in all directions. The Dandy Warhols and Sun Atoms veteran Peter G Holstrom brings his own personal craft to the front of the brochure. With help from big industry names such as Alexander Hackett from the dreamgaze group Pang Attack and Ride’s vocalist Andy Bell, Pete International Airport puts a permanent sonic landmark on the map with every fresh installation. Out Now, Sea Of Eyes EP makes use of the remix talents of Andy Bell, Tom Smith of Holy Youth Movement, and Daniel Sparks of omniscuro. Described as a natural progression from the recent full-length record, this exploratory and experimental mashup adds extra colour and direction to the already long list of musical destinations. The lead track, Sea Of Eyes, is represented with a fascinating 7-minute music video directed by Italian film-maker Francesca Bonci. A sweeping percussive phrase takes the wind and blusters the sail as a wave of electronic sound rushes in. Loose harmonies swerve and pivot within neat frames as the melody builds within the guitar and vocal. Laid-back and dazed, the lyrics begin to make sense of the images and feelings that push through the fizz of enchanting music. Keyboard atmospheres rumble and electronic bells chime and hum in the distance as the bassline follows the intuitive lead set by the passion for rhythm and blues. Epic side-fills and meandering peripheral layers continue to provide ample meat to the bones of the psychedelia infused concoction of rhythmic folk and organic trance.
