Following up on the gothic masterpiece Nytar covered previously in Sound Read Six, the vocalist from Octavian Winters brings single number two and the long-anticipated EP. The enchanting For Want Of takes Aursjoen on yet another darkly adventure through sound, imagery, and strange seductive serenades. Released on Stratis Capta Records, Strand EP was recorded in Chicago and has been produced, recorded, and mastered byWilliam Faith. He has worked with iconic acts such as The Bellwether Syndicate, Christian Death, Faith And The Muse, and The March Violets. Both singles also have a video made with the help of David Kruschke, featuring the artist in distinct and dreamworthy settings. The classically trained and sensibly street-wise Ria Aursjoen can be assured her cinematic and ethereal journeys are mapped in perfect detail. From Strand EP, this is For Want Of.  

 

As the keys dapple in illuminating phrases, a drum greets Aursjoen as the vocal rises. The melody emerges, evolving and increasing in intensity, a harmonious flow of orchestration shimmers and grows within the mix. Aursjoen’s voice is mixed together with various line interpretations, melody greets structure and alignment as the words overlap like breaking waves on the river shore. Swaying motions of percussion surge on as the pumping fire bursts in the darkness and images of folk tales and mystery flicker in her nocturnal grimoire of reality. For Want Of from Aursjoen is a dedication to beauty and fantasy, tinged with a dowsing of intriguing humanity, the epic tale continues.

With more than a subtle dose of Nordic magic, San Fransico’s Aursjoen takes us on a journey through chimerical enchantment with Nytår. The Danish word for New Year, this song drifts in from the ethereal realm of mystery and change. Where the border of this world and the next meets, a New Year carries the same metaphorical resonance that pilots the circumstance and situation around our thoughts. From Octavian Winters, the hugely talented and draped in bewitching charm, Ria Aursjoen is using her own platform to make her most intimate dream-sounds a material reality. Taken from her new record, Strand EP which we can expect in November, Nytår has been produced, mixed, mastered, and recorded by William Faith. With accolades stretching from Christian Death to The Bellwether Syndicate, his abilities are in the right place when working with classically trained musicians like Ria Aursjoen. 
 
A rising pulse of cymbal brings kick drum and wooden taps to the surface as cello sounds stream in luminous rivers of endearing clarity. A harmony builds in the strings, violin leans in with a meniscus of tone the crests above the wholesome bass. Ria Aursjoen enters with her voice, uniquely matched to the ambient and abstract flow of instrumentation, her lyrics echo and vibrate aloft reaching tones of epic adventure. As the beautiful music intensifies, the drumming adds yet more depth with huge depth-charge bass tones as the vocal takes straight lines upward into the realms of majesty and magnificence.
