Maven Grace
Take Me To The Water Helium Records Helium is known for being a safe bet when it comes to applying fast rising dynamics, although it can be quite rare. It has a tendency to escape the atmosphere due to its light-hearted and free flowing nature. It’s no surprise to find Maven Grace associated with this elemental residue of the sun’s parents. On Helium Records, their new album goes into orbit this Friday 18th. Before then, we get to enjoy the sound of Take Me To The Water. Taken from the record, the single was recorded at the world-famous Abbey Road and made use of Nick Cave’s resident vibraphone. The duo comprising of Henry Jack and Mary Home have enlisted the talents of Portishead and Radiohead drummer Clive Deamer to give the record the top-notch rhythm section they deserve. From Friday’s Surface With A Smile, here is Take Me To The Water. The video opens with sexy legs and a soulful melody. Light-touch drumming brushes the snare and hat as a raindrop flow of keys plunges us into the vocal. The voice is like a whisper, albeit drenched in melody and spirit. The story enters the main section as the sunrise enters the imagery. A piano begins to chant chords with sombre tones that elevate and enchant the tune. A rising evolution of melody brings new sounds into the mix as the slow-paced and beautifully crafted song continues into realms of inward dream. A laid-back rendition of humanity with a masterful approach to curve and elegance, the cinematic Take Me To The Water takes us on a subtle drama like no other. Maven Grace
No Music Helium Records The third single from their second album, Surface With A Smile, which is due out very soon, No Music sees the UK dreampop duo Maven Grace don a darker thread in their weave work. The song highlights the true heroism of artists, especially musicians, who are forced underground by oppressive and authoritarian regimes. To follow your intuitively known life’s purpose regardless of the hostility of those around you is truly brave and inspiring. There’s something about music that bonds communities together, regardless of faith or flag, a good song can soften the hardest of hearts. Maybe that’s why some people want it to go away. Co-produced with Chris “Merrick” Hughes, known for work with Adam and the Ants and Tears For Fears, and with an ensemble of collaborators to hand, Maven Grace prepare us for October’s new album with the video for No Music. Eerie folk music glistens and pours from the tipped jug of play. A sequence of strangeness curls over and reveals angelic vocals that shine with their own inner radiance. Elements of mystery join hands with strangely familiar scales from other times. The words hypnotically fuse with the melody in shimmering resonances and drifting motivations. A beautiful backdrop of femininity drapes the framework with morish colour and sensation. No Music from Maven Grace contains everything good and peaceful about the gift of music, aptly portrayed in a dramatisation of dream and purpose.
