Inspired by the enigmatic “Get Back”, The Beatles film directed by Peter Jackson, Washington DC’s Argo and the Violet Queens present Casablanca. The track was produced in a whole band sitting, no layers, no taking turns, no trying to find the chemistry in a dry little box room. The band enjoyed the entire performance as if in front of the world itself, and their dandy technicians then focused the energy and laid it down on the system. They’ve been doing this since they were young. As a band, Argo and the Violet Queens have evolved and moved through life while continuing their friendship and productive inventiveness. They’ve just finished a 3-tour marathon with 65 shows around the clubs, does the music ever stop? Not likely, here’s looking at you. Stick it on.

A chug of warmly distorted guitar opens the tune as a synth snakes behind it, sleekly wavering in hypnotic patterns. The drums kick in, and the guitar begins to create a choppy and professionally tweaked rhythm, full of palm mutes and well-times flings of treble. The vocals enter, smooth rock and roll style elocution brings a great feeling and upbeat edge, it’s almost post-punk and the guitars swirl around in spiralling dynamics as the drums describe an invigorating journey. A formidable break down takes the song to a new direction, jazz and funk, interesting chords, rhythmic experiments, and a fascination we can’t ignore, it ripples through and then hits the bank with another burst of verse. Upbeat, classic, and full of low-key attitude, it’s just the right combination for a party.
