What originated on the streets of Santiago, Chile, is now a star-studded music project at home in Brooklyn, New York. The Latin, funk, and hip-hop fusion groove of Thekoiway has taken the genre blend by force and reinvented dancefloors and living room with its inventive and clever use of a variety of influences. Their splendid story of climbs and collaborations precedes them as the sound has matured and grown in popularity since over the years. This latest track was originally written in Mexico City in 2012 during a period of evolution and early progress. Now with the help of Chilean rapper Jamez Manuel from Zorona Point, the track about how we each respond to the streets differently receives the music industry treatment. It’s had production from Rocky Gallo, who’s worked with Noah Jones and CeeLo Green, plus mastering by Tom Waltz, known for working with Fleetwood Mac and Alicia Keys. Written from personal experience about life on the streets in South America, La Calle Quema gives us a slice of a life we’d likely never live.  
 
A jangle of percussion and a tidal surge of funky music brings out the warm weather sounds. Deep and chunky bass duels with the intelligent rap style of Jamez Manuel. The words are not in English, and that puts me at a disadvantage. The music has a strong resemblance to Fun Lovin Criminals’ later work, with melodic spoken word mixing with slick verses and musical phrases that reverberate with class. A disco feel bounces within the mix as chord progressions jam in pretty passages while the down-to-earth musicianship maintains the luminance. Excellent rhythms that capture the whole body manoeuvre along the lines of listenable sounds and fantastic instrumental orchestrations.
