Mesmerising synth-pop melodica from Portland’s Sun Atoms shines forth like midday radiance with Take This Love. The upbeat and engaging symphonic focus of rhythms, notes, and vocal raises the energy and fuels the imagination. Consisting of L.A. drummer Eric Rubalcava, Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez from Hi Hazel, Mars de Ponte from LoveBomb Go-Go, the multi-instrumental talent of June Kang, Jsun Atoms from The Upsidedown and Daydream Machine on vocals, and Pete International Airport plus Dandy Warhols’ Peter G. Holmström on bass, Sun Atoms present as a true ensemble of vibrant and gifted individuals. They work together extremely well, each making room for the other in a band-wide effort to make the best of what they each bring. The track was mixed by Jagz Kooner, the name behind works by Garbage, Oasis, Massive Attack, and Primal Scream. It was also mastered by Keith Tenniswood, who’s worked with Death In Vegas and Spiritualized. Their clear dedication to the sound is an extra peg on the scale that makes Sun Atoms well worth your listening. 

Opening with a breezy tom and kick drum brief, the psychedelic vocals wander over and add their flavour. The guitars and bass thump to the beat in a steady march of awestruck forward motion. Frill in the melody sparkles on the corners of the bar as groove and melody line the way. Breathing heavy and offering a sultry design, the lyrics lay down in indulgent barrages of smooth prose. Keyboards flurry in splendid motifs that kindle little fires within the mix and break up the flow to neatness. A pushing rhythm and cool vibes in melodic form give a steady and dreamy space-rock style fusion of electronic and organic sounds.
