Shelleyan Orphan fans can rest assured that after the untimely passing of Caroline Crawley, the rest of the band are still ready and writing. Jemaur Tayle has established himself with ex-Cure drummer Boris Williams as the dynamic Vamberator. It all began when Shelleyan Orphan were invited to support The Cure on their Disintegration tour. Becoming fans of the upstarts, their gothic and alternative sound gelled immediately with the time-tested retro goodness Robert Smith’s boys are known for. Alongside Goldfrapp and The Cult bass player Charlie Jones and Unifaun Productions boss Max Marchini, Jem and Boris bring it on with their fusion of new and vintage sounds. They’ve even enlisted Caroline Crawley’s daughter Inky into the mix for her angelic voice. A new chapter fully open and the pages turning fast, Vamberator have been enjoying the instant success of their latest album Age Of Loneliness. It has been streamed all over the planet and now fans can get the hard copy to keep for future generations. The music opens true to style with a twinkling, eerie synthesiser motif. A break of drums cracks open the egg and a yolk of upbeat goth-pop spans out into the frying pan. Strangeness and mystery hug the melody in abstract melodic swerves and epic choral harmonies. Keyboards come alive within bracing guitar riffs that holler with blues fantasy and rock n roll glamour. A spiralling sense of determinism keeps the energy up in the air as a progressive formula invites new corners to the room with every turn of the head. Eyes and hands manifest as the vision of the song leaps from its composition, soaring dramatizations of feeling with a true sense of British community, a fizz of polar forces come together and complete the magnet as a tuning fork set to Grade A.
