The Urban Renewal Project
Money (featuring Oh No) Los Angeles How do we fit sixteen dynamic and talented jazz, soul, and hip-hop musicians on stage at one time? It probably requires a fair amount of money, and that is the title of the new Urban Renewal Project single. It features the skills of Oh No, which levels their sound off at one storey higher than usual. The song explores how money is a source of hope and liberation and a poison, a drug that changes how people think. A lot of it in one place is like a weapon, it can be used to completely change something in the world, for better or worse. Urban Renewal Projects, we love those, putting things back where they belong. Let’s have some Money. Rumbles of bass and snappy drums lean in and the vocal begins. A female powerhouse opens the song and then it bubbles down into an upbeat and motivational rap. Trumpets and bass glide along the smooth rhythms, funky guitars chug and jangle within the mix as distorted chords fizz and pop along the verbs that flow in duet soul and rap. A full-on brass and rock band finds ample space to jam together as DJ beats conjoin with drumming. The sharing of the microphone gives a polygonic sense of direction, the vivid and angular dimension of sound keeps turning, burning, and reworking the groove as it sees fit.
