Heavy metal from the historical city of Minsk, home of Independence Square and a coveted machine building industry, Mission Jupiter aim to bring a bit of the Romance with Dei Pater on the radar. From their third album Aftermath, Self-Destruction opens another door on the advent calendar and lets us see a picture. A classic dose of the band’s synonymous sound awaits, which fans and friends can wrap their heads around as they wait for the main event. A song written about battling with mental disorder, when our emotions become the master it’s because something inside has either given up or retreated to a safer internal zone. I think we’ve all been there, hiding under our own inner rock while the mind uses its super-ego to determine what the id desires or while the subconscious flaws within us rise up and govern from a primal sense of instinct. I think heavy metal does it best when overturning the rock and shining a light on the shadows, to see what’s there. Here’s Self-Destruction.  
 
It begins with a burst like a modern take on a Nirvana song with a grunge influence straight out of the bag. Then a crack of drums breaks it down to something more metallic and the cutting edge of rhythm and riff begins to bite. A roaring bass riff takes the lead as the lyrics run up for take-off. Kate Varsak sings like a diva; her operatic reach and volume captures the song and launches it into the atmosphere in gusts of passion and choice elocution. A gothic edge from the dark corridors of Lacuna Coil lends a haunting melancholia to the surging brush of Belarusian guitar, drum, and voice. A great chemistry gels the band together as the tightly produced structure resonates and evolves across a brief four minutes of high-energy expression. Bring on the album.
