They have a reputation the nation over for their talked-about live energy and fantastic dedication to their craft. Recorded at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios, Chicago-based The Empty Pockets offer up a nourishing rendition of Al Stewart’s In Brooklyn. The 1969 song from the Love Chronicles album is reimagined and reperformed by the Americana folk and blues-rock quartet. The band have a close association with Al Stewart as they have spent over a decade touring with his band. They’ve pulled in the long-term Stewart collaborator Peter White to get the nylon string section just right and with Erika Brett’s distinctive vocals, the music takes a step forward while wearing the same coat.  
 
It opens with a glorious West-Coast sound that resonates with blue and rock from the glistening band. Medium pace drums rattle the rhythms across the bars as the guitar brushes through chord progressions and classy licks. Erika begins with the story; she delivers the lyrics with an expert and performance art style. A swinging narrative keeps us in the mood for listening as the band add flurries of momentum with rolling breaks and flashy sections of orchestration. Lyrics that point to symbols of the Big Apple and that particular suburb, the picture is drawn, coloured in, and set into motion with the vibrancy and spirit of this great performance of this classic song.
