Southern central England has a massive music culture, with Bristol taking gold in nearly every league. They have a reputation for loud and proud musicians and music lovers who gladly perform and play a variety of sounds. When it comes to dreampop, Phonseca have the relay baton. It’s the turn of the synthesiser and voice duo to celebrate the home run for their second album. Called Everything Lasts Forever, the record tips a hat towards people like Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Their lead single, English Night, is a certain export hit with international fans dreaming of being in Bristol at 10pm as the main act comes on. It’s Phonseca and the video is now.

The bass hits with a thump and a riptide that carries us down the river. The music becomes a song as the vocal begins with a Disney Princess style voice. The melody soars through the composition like a high-flying bird and the words describe a night out doing all the classic things. A four-stroke rhythm gives us a square section of floorspace, and the lyrics evaporate into clouds of mesmerising drifts of projection. You’ll need a great voice to sing with this one, I’m sure no-one will mind if you have a go anyway. Thriving in the emotional drama of orchestral relationships, the track carries us through the memory and the picture with hopeful, knowing glances.
