You Never Have To Love Me Los Angeles Intuitive assemblage art at the right angle looks fantastic, and with what’s described as a beautiful wreckage in You Never Have To Love Me, the metaphor seems perfectly apt. It’s up to us how we look at things, and it’s often bad manners to only see the mess. Sometimes our heart feels too much, and our brain thinks it has the answer. It can be hard work to be on the receiving end. You Never Have To Love Me takes the psychedelic rockers to the borderline between togetherness and turmoil, where the best surfing probably is, yet where some of our most impassioned feelings manifest. With a video by the excellent Francesca Bonci, a visionary leader in the art video scene, the track is also accompanied by a B-side. It’s not often we get one of those, these days, sometimes it’s the best song. I’ve posted it at the end. A cymbal strike begins the music, as the guitar and keys begin to offer a steady groove. Vocals with a retro psychedelic feel begin to spill the words. A smooth yet crumbly delivery gives driving energy through viscous feels and resistance, forward momentum is the only momentum as the harmonies and progression gives us a little push. Harmonies in the vocal break free with soaring licks of lead guitar that decorate and embellish the backbone of gripping bass and piano framed by central acoustic chords. Dreamy and evocative, the serenade to reality pangs of something deeper, something unspoken, and felt deeply.
