The North American dark and post-punk scene is thriving thanks to the tight and well-crafted numbers continually offered by Octavian Winters. Fronted by Ria Aursjoen, the band ensorcel the scene with mystery and theatrical punch. Blending the voltage of rock music with the allure of gothic, they continue to pursue the deepest vaults of passion and melody. They’re preparing to go on tour with Pink Turns Blue, the German post-punk and darkwave outfit, with several US dates already confirmed. Produced by William Faith, a well-known name in the field, Elements of Air from Octavian Winters explores how our belief systems and views on the world limit what we feel and experience.

A sudden snap of snare and kick releases the energy. It’s adorned by a hot electric guitar that’s glowing white with kinesis as the chords and melody cloak the percussion. Bass and vocal take either end of the scale and throw the smoke bombs and purple flares down to create the atmospheric scene. A grime in the mix keeps a muddy field sensation alive as the sharp end of the music slices through and gives us a clear path to walk. Some of us scrape like zombies, imitating their dance moves, others march and prance like freshly fed vampires returning to their libraries. A soaring burst of vocal carries the music out, it lets us feel alive while the earth is thrown down in handfuls on our wide-open eyes. Can you move? The music is so transfixing.
