The spirit of Manchester is concentrated and poured from the Salford pewter jug of plenty. Patchwork Rattlebag have been making quite a name for themselves in recent months, and they’ve just released their debut record. Fragments 1 is out now and is a generous dose of home-grown original talent, including stand-out tracks Hook, Line, and Riser, On My Own, and today’s feature Vertigo Dreams. The electronic music collective reveals a psychedelic moodiness with a folk-rock element stitched into the programming. Utilising the magic of the human voice and the spectral poignancy of digital technology, Patchwork Rattlebag explore the spaces and the zones that only alchemy can reach. From the amplifier lead to gold, via the human mind, here is Vertigo Dreams.

A strange atmosphere spirals out from the intro then falls into a guitar phrase that trembles with folk classicness. The vocal enters, dainty and poetic, a sweet frolic through memory and aroma takes us through a spacey daydream of haze and nature. The musical phrase hum with a summery brimful glass of sweet fizz as delicate and massaging vocal harmonies ghost and speak through the walls of tranquil sound. The retro sensibility in the mix conjures fantasy and nostalgia as cassette warmth feels like glistening magnetism within the machine.
