A graduate of the world-famous BRIT School for the performing and creative arts, London’s stunning Natalie Shay is owning her direction with a new EP. Atmosphere has some popular tracks already with thousands of streams each. The rest of the record was recently released and is bound to catch up with the singles in no time at all. For people who feel everything, Natalie Shay writes tunes that relate to the topsy turvy inside reality that other people rarely acknowledge. Her tracks have been featured on international media like Radio 1, Future Pop, BBC Radio 6 Music, and BBC Introducing. It dwarfs my 30 seconds on Radio 4. Having supported Shania Twain at Hyde Park, she’s also played loads of UK festivals and appeared on CBBC a few times too. What a star! Let’s put our ears in action and check out her title track Atmosphere.

Summery tones on the guitar ring out with a warm and cosy distortion. The rock and pop feel opens out further as the drums and voice hit the bars at the same time. Natalie Shay sings like a pro with a gorgeous projection and timbre, the words are positioned before us like perfect pictures as she gracefully takes the music further into the chorus. An upbeat melody takes control; it carries the slight sadness hidden within the music into a realm of possibility and excitement. The mood gives way to passion; the tension shifts into tentative reality. It’s a delightful number, sitting comfortably between the other tracks with equal veracity. Pretty, meaningful, and written with a knowing we can tap into.
