With Low Sunday Ghost Machine – Black EP on its way to our ears in time for mid-May, the sequel to their celebrated White EP, post-punk shoegaze pioneers Lowsunday remind us that This Is Not Heaven. Out on Projekt Records, the band are finalising their dual release with their run up to Black. It’s their first output since 1999, the twenty-year hiatus saw music evolve at speed around the compass, so re-establishing true North is relevant and necessary. Already garnering international attention, White was proudly among the Post-Punk.com EPs of the year 25. This negative image record is set to stun once again with a darker and more atmospheric sound. What is not heaven? This is.

A rhythm and bass section strikes immediately and lifts with the onset of guitars that wail like mysterious forces within castle walls. The music builds with the repeating riff, it thumps with a galloping bass and snare-driven drumming. Whispered vocals then form within the cosmic strings and vibrating reality. The voice begins to describe things that require us to listen intently. A Sisters Of Mercy style of singing, but darker and more experimental, the band makes creepy noises and rhythmic witchcraft with their masterful use of effects and timing. Exciting times.
