Since forming in 2020, the riot grrl/punk band from sunny L.A. have found a great songwriting formula with a fantastic band image to decorate it. Sour Tongue provide vibrant colours, pop art, and emotional symbolism rife in their output. They’ve got an EP out now called Final Girl that contains the popular single I Thought You Liked Me! To elevate it further, they’ve produced another video single for Me-Mania, taken straight from the record. Why now? It’s show time. The band are preparing to play a full set at the Belasco Theatre. They’ll be opening the entire festival on the 20th of June. Big shoes to fill, big music to put in them. We all probably know a me, me, me, person. I wonder if that’s what this song is about. Let’s put it on.

It rolls in on feedback and distortion, then a progressive funky riff begins to push the boundary. It starts to chop and bump as the timing keeps cutting itself in half, then on comes the rock and punk riff. A grimy guitar sound meets a grungy type of vocal; Daisy Chainsaw comes to mind. The riffs keep bouncing, it’s uplifting and heavy, a sweetness in the energy gives out pure party vibes. The river of sound washes along the banks of the stream, with splashing cymbals and roaring eddies of bass and rhythm, the vocals sit atop like a boat with a diesel engine, powering against the current.
