Father and son combine to bring the sound of Laptop to your device. The group has been going for years and now with young energy running through the circuitry, the sound is more relevant than ever. We get the considerable veteran talent of Jesse Hartman, keeping the band alive through the 2000s during the Island Records days, and the virtue of providence that is Charlie Hartman. His heart-throb son also has his dad’s dab hand for music production, lending not only stripling magnetism but fresh perspectives on sound. Their latest number is I Don’t Know and it’s about awareness of conformity. Thinking for yourself is a sure way to make original music, and yet it has to sound right, too. Finding the innovation in between the orthodoxy is what it’s all about. Before we know it, the rules are upside down. Conformity, then, is often relative. Just like these two.

A childish instrumentation begins the piece before a more grown-up rhythm begins. The lyrics lap across each other in a strange canon of song. Bass and guitars bump along the rocky road of progression as harmony and vocal display all kinds of choreography. Female voices add to the dance as we’re asking questions about this and that, playing dumb to play it safe and not caring if people think we’re insufferable, thank goodness these guys can really play. Bounce and bump make this party atmosphere track catchy and clever, fun, pop, rock, and creativity.
