Another Page In The Story Of Absolution Is Manifested In Music With Never Knew From Tulipomania3/4/2025
Tulipomania
Never Knew Sursumcorda Records As we get ready for the upcoming Absolution LP from Philadelphia’s electronic alternative duo Tulipomania, the next single is ready with a fantastic, animated video. They’ve enrolled executive producer Howard Thompson to oversee the album’s creation, putting the same energy that enriches Almos Sounds, Electra, and Island into the foundation. He’s worked with bands like Motorhead, Adam and the Ants, Psychedelic Furs, and Billy Bragg. The Absolution album was written in conjunction with a book of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer, with this new single being about trust and betrayal – something that features in the spellbinding story. For Never Knew, the band have put together a perceptive animation that features a lookalike who is mutated and deformed. An artistic vocal leaps across hurdle bars of abstract melody in a post-punk dream as the rhythm folds in. Haunting backing synths sink through strings and tone as the choppy music beats like an exercised heart. Piano notes fall like rain from guttering as the words dance on sixpences of emotion. The repeating lines about broken trust, hypnotic and mesmerising, a cloudiness builds in the mind as the track whirs in with its charged sensations. Part of a musical drama, a chapter in a strange story, the album is shaping up to be a progressive wonderwork. Prepare For Enchantment By Then And Only Then From Philadelphia Synth Punk Duo Tulipomania16/11/2023
Tulipomania
Then And Only Then Philadelphia They have kept their fans waiting for a long time. True followers never give up hope, however, and their faith has been rewarded with the fifth studio record. Out on Friday, the taster single is out now and is possibly the first thing we’ve heard in all this time. What has been affectionately described as synth-punk, the duo brings a delectable infusion of spirit and creativity along the lines of modern technology. Not long now until the record comes out, Dreaming Of Sleep had cover art made by Michael Speed of Beggars Group London. A fantastic production was carried out by record industry executive Howard Thompson, who’s worked alongside bands like Motorhead, Billy Bragg, MC5, and the Psychedelic Furs. The brilliance of the band shines through the expert design of their album and the new video Then And Only Then leaves us in no doubt as to what we can expect. A ghostly vocal enters the sound as a smooth and icy synthesiser slides around various key tones. Electrocution style drumming jolts in tempered blasts of electro percussion and mysterious and edgy notes bubble around the duo vocal. An eerie and dramatic atmosphere gives the music an intriguing sense of endearing awkwardness that presents as clever and fitting against the abstract composition. A drift of various images and colours sail before us as the song takes us through various hushed and emotional sections of breaking waves.
