Sound Read Six is in San Francisco today to get ahead of the latest single from No Captains. Taken from their glistening new album, Friends Like These, 13th Moon sees the funk-rock metallers merge with super-violinist KnightressM1. Taking heed from the world of astrology, the occult, and horror films by designing a sound comparable to Faith No More and Mr Bungle, Rage Against The Machine and Tool, No Captains offer up clever and inventive numbers that sail with plenty of knots.


The animated video opens with a slinky bassline that swirls with meandering strings on a creepy pedal. New motions break through with drums and voice, rapped and poetic vocals lean into song and ghostly shadows as the emotions sway under the weight of an encompassing sky. Aggression and introspection hold each other by the hand as a drifting swagger of bass guitar driven slush pushes with a groovy attitude. The phantoms of string fly like coasting spectres as the progression builds into Mike Oldfield's Altered State like origins of death metal. Intense and clarifying, a unique and phantasmagorical theatre of sound rolls with delicious sensations.
