Listen To The Beautiful Darkness That Resides Within Hermine From San Francisco’s Octavian Winters13/8/2025
Octavian Winters
Hermine San Francisco The legendary post-punk dreamweavers Octavian Winters return, complete with gothic enchantment, to present their latest offering. Hermine takes the band into the realms of heavy metal; singer Ria Aursjoen has said she enjoyed writing the song by delving into her fast and loud roots. The music was recorded, produced, and mastered at 13 Studio by William Faith, known for work with so many bands including Christian Death, Faith & The Muse, plus The Bellwether Syndicate. Since the phenomenal debut EP, 2023’s The Line Or Curve, extra-dimensional philosophy always feels like a reason to compose, and the band are giving listeners exactly what they’re looking for. A semblance of talents from scenes stretching from Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, and Black Tape For A Blue Girl, Octavian Winters realise the reality that shimmers in the dark. It roars into being with a fire that melts away any form of ice. The riffs hammer in with ample bass that punches down the rhythm alongside searing drums that snap and bump with push and pull. The music shifts to make room for the first verse, Ria Aursjoen delivers with her melted chocolate style voice, it pours across the bars in shiny and introspective lines of dark and sweet layers. The gunfire style rhythms keep penetrating the amalgam of reverb and vocal harmony, guitars rage within the hearth and push their heat far into the crevices of the mind. A pure gothic feel decorates something much harder and with a sense of primal brutality, it’s Hermine. The Indelible Octavian Winters Prepare For The Album Release With The Soul Stirring Surreal4/10/2023
Octavian Winters
Surreal Stratis Capta Records From the new album that’s due out later this month, the San-Fransico based post-punk outfit Octavian Winters present their psychologically intriguing new video. Like its name, the video for Surreal offers a dynamic and mind-bending visage to accompany what makes the third single from the album, The Line Or Curve. Recorded at Room 5 Recording and OW Studio by Mark Pistel, from Meat Beat Manifesto and Consolidated credit, the band co-produced their whole album alongside William Faith, who’s responsible for masterpieces by acts such as The Bellwether Syndicate, Faith And The Muse, Christian Death, and March Violets. Mastered by William Faith at Chicago’s 13 Studio, the music has everything it needs and more with the true-to-life talent within the band. A smooth rhythm outlines the intro as drums roll across the surface. A deep and resonant bass guitar begins to dig the groove deeper as the slow and graceful melodic phrase repeats along the percussive impetus. Ghostly sounds creep into the surrounding atmosphere as guitars invent sonic fantasies with string and effect. The vocal begins, drifting and meandering lines enchant with a beautiful sound. Harmonies reach out as the chorus joins the flow, the voice layers upon itself as the music shimmers in a wholesome vibe of tonal clarity. Sensations of gloom and phantasm crackle in the distinct conjunction of sounds as the evocative and bewitching song carries its energy with grace and poise.
