Still Corners
Crystal Blue London The drifting introspective vibes of dream-pop icons Still Corners get another colour to their luminescent glow with the addition of Crystal Blue. Half-way between the UK and the USA, members Tessa Murray and Greg Hughes lift the spirits and enchant the flesh with spectral soundscapes and adventurous dimensions of song. Since meeting at a train station during a line-alteration, Still Corners have jumped right into the music pool with their self-released 2008 record Remember Pepper? Soon after, they signed to Sub Pop Records where they fulfilled their obligations and more with their best material of the time. Since then, Still Corners have created their own label where they have complete artistic freedom and of course they maintain complete rights to their creativity. As real as it gets, we can be part of the dream and listen to the latest release. A pulsing, laid-back groove begins the song with a repeating chime that shimmers on the plodding bass. A drifting snare driven rhythm keeps time as the vocal adds a layer of evocative and delicately manicured melody. The dream-like imagery immediately settles in as the story of words and rhythms merge in a Fleetwood Macβs Albatross style meandering of smooth and rewarding chord progressions. The bliss continues as the chorus gives way to a section of breeze guitar that flows with pollens and aromatic vapours that attract fearlessly to the crevices of your hair.
