Frenchy And The Punk
Cities In Dust EA Recordings It’s an unbelievable 38 years since the iconic Siouxsie And The Banshees released their memorable Cities In Dust. To mark the occasion, the high-rising NYC duo Frenchy And The Punk have made their own version. Recorded during the production of their recent album Zen Ghost LP, the fan-favourite from their fabulous live shows made its way to the folder marked future which has now become today. Samantha Stephenson and Scott Helland bring their wide scope of skills and experience to the table and produce some of the biggest sounds two people can muster. With a punky folk cabaret edge, the group show us why Yahoo Music decided to list them among the United States’ top 25 two-piece acts. A catchy drum riff begins the music before a harmony of strings enter with a melodic step. Vocals begin, evocative and passionate words cry out in rhythmic and tuneful wisps of chanted sound. With lots of music behind the simplicity of the song, a unison of guitars and tones fathom intriguing harmonies and changing percussive repeats. Bursts of flavour ring out with every new bar as the familiar chorus calls us to our feet. Punk sensitivities tingle with rock n roll grooves and alluring femininity. Frenchy and The Punk
Temple Of Sleep New York The NYC-based duo is back with another piece from their latest album. Inspired by artists such as Blondie, Dresden Dolls, Florence And The Machine, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, (eBay links) the band have a punchy and provocative style that carries subtle and laid back elements. Blending neo-punk with post-folk sensibilities, the modern sounding music enjoys roots deep enough for your grandparents. Written about losing sleep, the song takes a step from the world that seems to offer nothing but futuristic fears. Maybe we’re right to be afraid, or maybe we should trust each other a little more. We know we can trust Frenchy and The Punk to deliver the goods when it really matters. Deep and sensual acoustic guitar breaks open the parcel as bass and drums entwine with the sauntering groove. Samantha enters with her cabaret style delivery. Smooth jazz and grunge seem to dance in her voice as feminine emotions launch the passionate lines into the flux of guitar. Melody in the music and the vocal spiral through cartographies of sound as the progression maintains evocative and inventive corners. The pressure of the rhythm builds across the marching ground as the song carries the ever-present weight of sense to each new moment. A sneaky peek at the album comes in the form of Mon Souvenir, a smashing single that showcases their sound. Taking on the spirit of the cabaret via a post-punk dream, Frenchy And The Punk manifest a sensational semblance of new-wave and dark folk. Percussion player, song-writer, and vocalist Samantha Stephenson teams up with guitarist-composer Scott Helland, known for founding Deep Wound and Outpatients. The duo bring a focus to the album's over-arching theme of soul phantoms, tulpas, and haunting memories that stay with us. Chunky acoustic guitar chugs a motoring melodic chord progression as drums and vocal enter on the snap. A moody projection of poetic lyrics swirls in gusty eddies that hang in gentle corners of tone. The guitar elevates into frills as the chords become expanded into rhythmic branches. Catchy and contagious, the driving pulse of music reels behind a slower and more grounded vocal section. The progression rises as the music patterns shift and evolve in the emotional out-laying of song.
