Snøw
Disconnected USA A young and fast-rising Lo-Fi star, Snøw brings a fresh and emotional vibe to the theme of cut-down and minimal sonics. When all we want is a flow, a motion, and a kinetic semblance of calm, we often think of the peace and solitude of thickly falling Snow. Perhaps this is what lent the name to this evocative and intriguing artist. A member of the solid Stay Inside Music Collective, Snøw brings the pain of life through the medium of synthesiser and chill (no need for Netflix) and illuminates hidden corners of feeling with radars of sombre ping. Lifted to heights by prolific music promoters such as Zane Lowe, the work of this fascinating artist is spreading like crystals on gently moving, aesthetically attractive flotsam. A gentle pianist’s tone begins the music with an echo-like compression that fills the void. Snøw begins to sing. A melancholy and soulful voice describes feelings and thoughts that carry severe and blessed emotion. A passing drumbeat adds a tingle of percussion with thumps of bass and lapping waters of skin. The loops in the voice and the keyboard gently roll over one another in harmony and tessellated groove. A relaxing dive into the realms of real male emotion that’s as universal as hair-dye, Disconnected from Snøw sets a sombre yet positive sonic scene. You can follow Snøw on Instagram and Facebook
AF13, Mitchell Yoshida & Scientist
Lost Stars Of Draco Scientist Dub Music so resonantly heavy that it vanquishes the undead with low-end stabs and fizzy hedonistic rhythms, a ward and a token to protect the avid dancer and socialite, Lost Stars of Draco offers up the goods in a trident of talents. Collaborations of creativity for the corners of crimson clubland, AF13, Mitchell Yoshida, and Scientist team up to take on the blood-sucking shade that kills everyone’s happiness. Will this be enough? I actually think it will be, provided the rest of the ingredients are in the cauldron. Twinkling piano tones echo into thumping drums and jazz infused forays of style. A striding tempo carries the intention forward with a bowling gate and a confident smile. Several factors work in unison through spectral synthesisers and sparkle drums that tingle like popping candy on the tongue. A slow groove penetrates the soundsphere as echo effects shimmy through dub compression and into rhythmic feedback. Swanky and luminescent, shining with reflected sunlight like angelic hair imitating the moon, the flow keeps pace with the peace as new motifs breeze in and out with laid-back fluctuations of movement. Society of the Silver Cross and King Dude
Wife of the Sea Temple Hymns Volume 1 A collaboration between the Australian-based, US Singer and Fashion Guru King Dude and Seattle-based Society of the Silver Cross, Wife Of The Sea brings the epic sounds of both partners to a new focus. Known for working with a variety of musicians, TJ Cowgill AKA King Dude is expanding his creative empire via output with bands, solo material, clothing designs under the Actual Pain brand, and much more. As the name suggests, Society of the Silver Cross lend their talents to a meditative and spiritual soundscape that draws in crowds and combines their energy into massive musical adventures. Together, they have produced Wife of the Sea, bringing a clear and beneficial matching of sounds that can only mean good music. It opens with a surge of chord and drone as the sounds of the past echo into modernity. A guitar adds a steel string strum to the flow as King Dude begins the song. His deep and resonant voice streams over the landscape of sound as new instruments add ghostly and phantasmagorical angles to the scenery. Sunken tones reveal sparkle as the high notes twinkle overhead in reflective glory. A female voice joins the direction in meandering harmonies that creep and dance with organic gestures. The melody uses inventive character as the music journeys onward, extra layers of charming mystery hang in the twilight air as archaic energies rise from newly minted glyphs of tone. Still Corners
Crystal Blue London The drifting introspective vibes of dream-pop icons Still Corners get another colour to their luminescent glow with the addition of Crystal Blue. Half-way between the UK and the USA, members Tessa Murray and Greg Hughes lift the spirits and enchant the flesh with spectral soundscapes and adventurous dimensions of song. Since meeting at a train station during a line-alteration, Still Corners have jumped right into the music pool with their self-released 2008 record Remember Pepper? Soon after, they signed to Sub Pop Records where they fulfilled their obligations and more with their best material of the time. Since then, Still Corners have created their own label where they have complete artistic freedom and of course they maintain complete rights to their creativity. As real as it gets, we can be part of the dream and listen to the latest release. A pulsing, laid-back groove begins the song with a repeating chime that shimmers on the plodding bass. A drifting snare driven rhythm keeps time as the vocal adds a layer of evocative and delicately manicured melody. The dream-like imagery immediately settles in as the story of words and rhythms merge in a Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross style meandering of smooth and rewarding chord progressions. The bliss continues as the chorus gives way to a section of breeze guitar that flows with pollens and aromatic vapours that attract fearlessly to the crevices of your hair.
