CLONE
Dividing Line Brooklyn Out now and describing the class war inspired by Donald Trump’s assertations, Dividing Line is the single taken from Summer’s CL.1 LP. Released on Portland’s Little Cloud Records and North Carolina’s 5BC Records simultaneously, the album showcases the highlights of the underground music scene with this debut from the supergroup. With members of Pilot To Gunner, Namesake, The Veldt, and Dead Leaf Echo, CLONE work the machinery of music from several principles to create a new sonic experience. They’ve been performing live together since 2019 so this record is a culmination of not only talent but working experience. Unlike some self-professed supergroups, none of it has been recently thrown together and the sound has been polished previously to the recording so we can be assured of a genuine band effort from this semblance of superiors. It begins with a bouncing rhythm played with unison guitars. The bass adds fluid melody underneath in divergent scales and motions. As the vocal begins, drums help the verses hammer down with thumping rock bass kick. An acceleration of momentum carries the music outward and onward as the guitars and drums begin to play a chord progression that’s filled with vibrancy and little licks. The singing is like a chant, reverberation and distance cause the vocal to extend far beyond the compact sound of the band. With a huge sound made of rock and dreams, Dividing Line by CLONE helps to mark the sand with its own sense of realism. Does this cross the line? What are you going to say about it? Love the song? Kaya Hoax feat. Magi Merlin
Hot Girls With ADD Montreal An electronic festival of sound awaits within the work of Kaya Hoax. With thumping rhythms, wowing synths, and dazzling percussion compositions, the music hits the pressure points and improves all-round performance. Known for her encapsulating sound from a run of recent live gigs around the Quebec area, Kaya Hoax now prepares to unveil her new record. Hot Girls With ADD is the single track to precede May 17th’s LP, Baby Gear. Teaming up with vocalist Magi Merlin, Kaya Hoax and her duellist compare brash and sniping remarks across a landscape of rhythms. A dusting of beats opens the music before a thunder of bass and vocal hammers in with a dose of groove. Sunken bass tones dig deeply into the scenery as the duet of vocals take turns to show their stuff. Nerves to say what they want and a sleek style that smoothly fits into the beat, Kaya Hoax and Magi Merlin jostle with their poetry as thumping and slow beats grab the body and make shuddering sensations that ripple through everything. Hot Girls With ADD sounds like a focus track, sharp-tongued, catchy, and rhythmically enchanting. You can follow Kaya Hoax on Instagram
The Corps
Dog Of War Thousand Island Records Eager to show off the new members from ATD, Blacked Out, and Bishop’s Green guitar man Morgan Farrell and also ATD, plus Little Fix and Whiskey River Gun Club’s bass player Dave Derksen, the Vancouver skate punk rockers offer Dog Of War. The Corps’ brand-new single is their first since the conscription of these new infantry members, so it’s bound to be a nerve wrenching slog through new and brazen territory. Based on a comic book theme, Dog Of War is Orion, Son of Darkseid. Raised by his enemy Highfather in a sibling swap with Scott Free, his own son, the manipulation of character by enemy forces can only reach so far. How far does it go? An aggressive pulsing vocal opens the music with bursts of tune to fill the space between. A rush of fast drumming and guitars then burst in like a switched on lightbulb, high-speed riffs hammer in as the song continues with the hard-core style progression. Huge palm-muted riffs take over to change the gear, harmonising lead guitar leans in to top the tower of noise as catchy lyrics happily galivant all over the composition. Dog Of War from The Corps is a maniacal mosh-pit anthem that undoubtedly follows and is followed by many more. Michele Ducci You Lay the Path by Walking on It Monotreme Records Laying his own path as it sticks to his feet, Michele Ducci is writing a new history for himself like yellow bricks in the post-band days. Since parting ways with M+A and Santii, Michele Ducci is following the light that flickers from his very own lantern into the dark unknown. A proficiency and discipline give him a craftsmanship to be used as a benchmark for solo artists, a simple yet stunning method gives rise to moving and memorable mammoths of sound. An LP is on its way with a release date in June, called SIVE, and You Lay the Path by Walking on It takes one of those new tracks and makes it a forerunner. The music opens with a sombre tone as muted chords and vocals gracefully spell out the melody. As the bars progress, an upbeat rhythm manages to sneak into the mix, and it livens up the atmosphere. New harmonies add another layer of musical clarity with major tones that generate buoyancy in the rhythm as Michele Ducci continues the moody yet positive minded rendition of feeling. The Palace Of Tears
Veiled Screen, Woven Dream New Orleans With their new album on the wing, The Palace Of Tears opens its doors and allows the rabble in to enjoy another meaningful escape into darkwave and shoegaze electro. Fans of Chelsea Wolfe and Alcest can be pleased to discover something for them in the multi-faceted sound offered by this semblance of cerebral song-makers. The title track of the record is presented with a splendid music video that’s been recorded, mixed and conjured by Erick r Scheid at Chateau of the Crying Myst in New Orleans. A dedication to her late brother Kirk, singer and lyricist LV Darkling composed the album and song in loving memory to a treasured time and human being. A subtle tone brings out atmosphere and tension before a cymbal strike gives way to deep bass synth and shimmering gothic guitar. A surge of energy and sombre sensations leaps forward from behind a velvet cloak, claws outstretched, and fangs revealed, a shift into cabaret and opera culminates the image. Massive reverb and sudden plunges of emotional clarity send the music into vortices of passion as the vocal delivers a sadness infused journey into the sunken depths of human sorrow. Elements of rock meet punchy goth tangents of synthesiser as diva vocals crest the wave of fervour in ever intensifying ranges of exquisitely controlled grief.
