Двічі Народжені / Twice Born
Joining forces from astride the globe, Canadian/Ukrainian duo Ummagma establish a phenomenal soundscape with a merging of shoe-gaze and post-punk new-wave that hits so many spots it's hard to describe. They've won several awards since 2012 including the Alternative Eurovision Awards held by Britain's Amazing Radio. Having been featured in global media on multiple occasions, Ummagma have worked with some phenomenal musicians on their journey, including founding member of The Cocteau Twins Robin Guthrie. Their latest single makes a clear statement about the current war in Ukraine with a heart-moving video.(Age restricted)
Soft acoustic guitar starts with a slow and emotion-wrapped melody. Drums thunder in with rain-drop like sounds amplified to mime the guns. Ukrainian lyrics begin, for us it might be best to listen to the phonetics and enjoy the journey. A mix of sounds build from gazing depths of sustained harmony and artistic mirrors. The verse changes into a melodic distance as the guitar shifts to reveal a progression in the melodic architecture. Subtle movements rise and spread as the sounds of humanity blanket the music for a brief moment. Cold synthesiser rushes the sides as a culmination of expression ensues.
