It’s only a few days until the new Fred Abbott album on Lojinx hits the shelves, Shining Under The Soot is the second solo album from the former Noah And The Whale songwriter. Following from the recently published What Kind Of Trouble and The Way Out Is Through The Door, this third single is the final round of the drum-roll that precedes the highly-anticipated LP. Featuring Dave Burn in the live video, the single offers us a cosy rendition almost in person. To make this musical experience even more special, the YouTube video has been produced to be fully immersive. The 360-degree camera has been linked to the audio mix meaning that as you navigate the angle of viewing by hand, the balances in the sound change to reflect the position of the ears.  
 
The music starts softly, a vibrant electric guitar with clean reverb expels its sounds in crisp chord breakdowns. A shimmer of drums keeps the time as the vocal begins on wings. A clear voice rises over the music with melodic accuracy and poignant elocution. The music progresses with a bluesy charm as various motifs launch from the verses. A short chorus unravels into an interlude of refreshingly cool licks that sail over the choppy but calm percussive waters. It falls back into the verse; a characterful portrayal of emotion and considerate thoughts gives us all food for thought. There’s plenty of that to go around even if there’s nothing left of anything else.
