When Manchester lads get together and make music, the world usually pays attention. And Chew Magna are proving to be one of the reasons we do it. Secrets is a feedback fest that looks at the liars among us and the people who talk a load of rubbish about things they know little or nothing about. A short and snappy number that began life as an acoustic song has been completely transformed by the band’s ability to make a lot of noise. Made in Salford at the White Hotel Studio with production by Martin Hurley of SWAYS, the pop melodies and fiery energy work together like yin and yang to fully form the orb of sound.
A wail of tempered distortion curls into the picture as a deep and funky bass begins to chugger like an old-fashioned tractor. Drums begin to smash with punky quickness as the guitars rise to clamour to the vocals. A happy sense of melody in the verses gives the music an upbeat feel that climbs in attitude as the chorus breaks. Musical interludes within the formula offer secretive snippets of sound that turn and twist within the forward surge of heaviness.
