That Old Quiet Lighthouse
Laughter Featuring Sanja Cin Described as putting the “emo back in wholesome”, a reversal of meaning might be involved somewhere. That Old Quiet Lighthouse have been climbing the ladder at super speed in the wake of their lively and lovable sound. Inspired by key acts such as Pinegrove and Alex G, That Old Quiet Lighthouse take their capable song writing to new levels of virtuosity. Laughter features the beautiful sonics of Sanja Cin and is designed to be an up-beat folk number that uses the melodious haunt of the tenor horn to bring out the magic in her voice. In just a few months, That Old Quiet Lighthouse has exploded into luminosity as their work has been featured on Charlie Ashcroft’s Amazing Radio andV13. A melodious chugging rock progression opens with clear and well-projected vocals. A mix of various harmonies emerge from the mix of violin, guitar, and bass. Interesting drum beats slenderly fit in the spaces behind the rhythm. A fun and inventive vocal opens out in musical lanes. A funk and jazz feel leans in with the note choices. Sanja Cin offers harmony layers in the powerful lyric section as the song changes with gradual gear shifts. Melancholic words bob like happy ducks on feelings of just right that round off the emotion with balance and dignity. Elk City
Floating Above The Water (Live) Magic Door Record Label Dreamy and art inspired, New Jersey dream-pop figureheads Elk City bring a new video single made by H. Robert Escurel. Recorded live at Brooklyn’s Union Pool, the video brings a fresh outlook and another page in the chapter-turning adventures of the band. A new album is out, Above The Water LP contains all the recent singles, this feature track, and a lot more. Available on the Magic Door Record Label, this new production puts another key in the hands of the listeners to unlock some wholesome vision food. The group have inspirations ranging from PJ Harvey to 10,000 Maniacs, so we can expect a spectrum of quality that flows from these multiple sources. Formed by drummer Ray Ketchum and vocalist Renée LoBue, the band quickly gained a full line up. With Sean Eden from Luna and Chris Robertson from Feed (a Psychedelic Furs side-project) on the guitars, Richard Baluyut from Versus takes the bass. Elk City has been enjoying the twilight sounds of happy hour since the year 2000. This latest record is, however, a brand new era for the progressive and psychedelic band. Waves on sonic togetherness range from side to side as the band enchant us with the first few bars. Guitar rises from the mists of sound with a slender drum score to make everything stable. The vocals begin, introspective and gothic tones curdle like shadows at dusk as the resonant band sound rises and falls like gusts of soul-clearing wind. Spellbinding disparity meets utopian sonic presence as the music drips from tilted dimensions into glistening cups held by eager magi. Elements of neo-folk bring a soulful edge as shining lights of tone speckle the Whitby jet backdrop with ever growing stella intensity. Chris Williams and Kid Reverie
Warning Bell Wilmington Chris Williams wrote a little verse one day that seemed to be the seed of something much bigger. From his North Carolina home, he made contact with a friendly face and respected musician Kid Reverie. When they got together, what began as a few lines and a tune became a moving and well-written piece of music. A song about how no matter how hard you try sometimes people implode. A guitar and organ led song, Warning Bell is one that most of us can understand. The slightest mistake or perceived problem can lead to a house of cards falling around you. From the upcoming album, Something For Nothing, Warning Bell is a song about making sure you’re in a good place and those around you are too. Rock and roll chord progressions lean out from the quiet as an organ joins the pattern to the beat of a steady drum. Folky words enter, the smooth swagger of music breaks into a brisk walk as the chorus grows naturally from a sleek entry verse. Swirling organs greet the rising vapours of melody as the music travels up and down in tidal flows of introspective atmosphere. A drifting sense of melancholy meets an uplifting swing of major key in a dualistic portrayal of deep human feelings. Musical interludes give soul and character to the drifting progression as Warning Bell reminds us there won’t be one sometimes.
