Liquid Ltd
I Walked Montreal Famous for his Top Of The Pops appearance with Bran Van 3000’s smash hit Drinking In L.A., Stephen “Liquid” Hawley returns with another creative demonstration. Recently making the scene with Hard Labor, Liquid Ltd prove their prowess with an equally as memorable number. Liquid has just been featured in Jericho Ridge, a brand-new action-adventure film by Bafta Award winner Will Gilbey. Teaming up with Rench, the Emmy-owning, chart-topping producer, Liquid Ltd continues the party with their twist on Americana hip-hop that nestles comfortably in the modern music culture. A laid-back acoustic lick opens the tune with a spoken word element to bring us into the fold. A continuation of the rhythmic melody gives in to vocals leading us into the onset of the music. A bump of bass adds a new layer of rhythm to the flow of the riff. A poetic rap of storytelling and verse lifts and drops with the pressure of the song. After a minute or two, the music changes gear. Synths give way to the rhythm as a new sensation is draped over the vocal. Progressive build-ups layer through verses and chorus as the lyrics build a world of intent with their rhymes. Black Market Karma
The Sour Truth (Featuring Sonic Boom) Flower Power Records Psychedelic indie-pop from London with Black Market Karma meets Sonic Boom for a collaboration towards perfection with The Sour Truth. The Spacemen 3 and Spectrum producer / musician has made time in his busy schedule of being cool to work with this talented and fast-rising act. Joining Black Market Karma with production and percussion, Sonic Boom adds another level of quality to their already glistening and kaleidoscopic sound. Since touring with The Black Angels earlier in the year, it’s been non-stop for Black Market Karma, who’s been working hard in the studio with Sonic Boom to bring us all this sparkling new single on Flower Power Records. A weathered and glowing guitar begins to strum dayglo chords that spell the atmosphere. New wave sensations ooze from the timing and feeling within the mix. A happy and upbeat vocal with a shimmering facia begins to poetically invigorate the song. The chords continue to pulse in their hypnotic glances to the past as harmonising instruments begin to add extra fizz and depth to the progressive and choppy music. A build-up of instruments continues to heighten the mass of sound as the dreamy and imaginative vibe carries us ever further from our sorrows. Lusitanian Ghosts
September European Phonographic From the upcoming Lusitanian Ghosts III LP, due on the 15th of September, the Canadian-Portuguese-Swedish collective of Iberian chordophone ambassadors bring September. This newly released single helps Lusitanian Ghosts to capture the magic of the end of summer with their traditional take on the up to date. Once again, the band have made the most of the music by recording it at Hamburg’s world-renowned Clouds Hill Studio. Akin to works by artists such as Elbow, Teenage Fanclub, and Peter Doherty, the legendary recording studio has been brought to life by the magic touch of Sebastian Muxfeldt. Lusitanian Ghosts founders and creative forerunners Micke Ghost and Neil Leyton have fortified the dream of bringing the endangered Portuguese chordophone to the party via upbeat and memorable rock n roll songs. A catchy drum score opens the tune with vibrant percussion and quick snare and kick. A sudden push of music brings the song to life as vocals and strings begin to add melody and groove. A rush of progressive chord changes catches the sail of the vocal as the song moves into the chorus and wails of mild distortion lend feedback and tone to the thriving mix. A happy and stylish flow pours from the song as an REM feel clatters with chunky basslines and energetic drumming to reinvent the traditional with modernity. IMOGEN
True-Blue (Radioactive Man Remix) From Albert Road EP Just out on Steel City Dance Discs, an Australian original record label that now works in London, IMOGEN sets the fire burning with her debut release on the imprint. Following from the critically acclaimed What? EP, this latest record samples her talents and demonstrates a realm of musicality. Delving into progressive and fresh sounding techno electronica, a dancing ethos brings a clash of invigorating beats and enchanting layered effects. IMOGEN is renowned for building tracks that push the limits of the sound system and, once running, give the lightshow a marathon of adventurous beats to capture. True-Blue from the new record is given the Radioactive Man treatment for this feature, leaving us with a six-and-a-half-minute escape into digital psychedelia. Already booked for a June residency at Steel City Dance, a set at Glastonbury, Portugal’s Neopop, and the Stone Techno Festival in Germany, it’s going to be a busy time for this quick-rising producer. The remix opens with a deep and sumptuous synth tone, mirrored by wavery airs of higher clarity. A deep bounce of energy forms another layer of depth as a progression of melody unravels. Rhythms begin to churn in a distant space, leading the way for the onset of close-up drumming that invigorates a curdling sense of movement. Atmospheric depths resonate against digital murmurations of flowing sound. A swirling digital flow begins to take the centre sound, churning robotica mingles with the sensual rhythms to spur sensations of futurism and dystopia. Eerie motifs flow in ghostly horizons across the semblance of electronic rhythms in spacious and dreamy gusts. As the track moves from start to finish, several chapters of entwined sound merge together in progressive chants of emotional kinesis. CR And The Nones
The Ghosts Are Coming Home Magic Door Records In the fiery trail left behind from their recently released The Long Game, CR And The Nones deliver once again with their second release from September’s new record. This time it’s the title track and the former CR And The Degenerates frontman leads the pack with his new sound. Chris Gennone has self-produced the record after acquiring all the necessary skills over the years. To get everything just right the album was also mixed by Magic Door label mainstay Ray Ketchem, who’s worked with the likes of Elk City, Luna, and Versus. Out today, The Ghosts Are Coming Home opens one more chapter in the book of The Nones. A semblance of strings opens the track and gives way to a delicate acoustic guitar strum. A steel string bends in the background as the minor key penetrates the atmosphere. A wistful voice begins the verse, a harmony in the composition brings a subtle and emotive quality. As the music continues, vocal harmonies add flavour before a drum begins to punch in the rhythm. Neat packets of percussion dose the song with a new-found energy that elevates the rendition to new levels of energy. Pulsing lyrics keep time as the band rise with distorted guitars and progressions of intensity. A master-class in prog-rock and folk sentimentality, The Ghosts Are Coming Home from CR And The Nones carries them all the way. I Am A Rocketship
It’s Because Of You He’s Dead La Cruella The sixth studio release is out now from Atlanta’s multi-national music duo I Am A Rocketship. Featuring the multi-pro talents of Eric Weissinger and the luxurious voice of Sweden’s L E Kippner, the US based band take their sound to ever increasing heights with consistent quality. An avant-garde and melancholic flavour is sprinkled with glittery sensations and formidable intimacy. To get acquainted with the album, we can check out It’s Because Of You He’s Dead. A sunken bass tone throbs among distorted drums. A vocal sample churns the energy outward which leads into a space-age synth and blues-oriented guitar. L E Kippner begins to sing, her elegant and alluring voice beckons us in like a siren on a warm ocean. The waves of guitar break like crests as melodic compositions chop at the spongy sentiments and evocative depths of bass. The song unwinds like silken threads, a trail of emotional understanding lines the still-life memories and looks to the future. Interesting harmonies blend with dream-pop style deliveries as rhythmic melody carries the music between the distinctive and delicate verses.
