Post-punk fusion band Candy Coffins are in party mode since the release of their new album. The hard work and determination to work together and produce a culmination of composition and clarity of mind has paid off. The whole album was mixed by David Barbe, who’s worked alongside Drive-By Truckers, Deerhunter, and Superchunk. The sum is greater than its parts, and each part is more than capable of standing on its own two feet as well. To help the record make its way into our homes and cars, Candy Coffins have released a new single from the record to put a foot in the door of the casket. Another Kiss follows up from their recent short film, Tangled Up In Teacups. Influences such as The Cure and Afghan Whigs (eBay links) have enabled the band to resemble the classic rock and avant-garde elements of post-punk new romanticism while encapsulating a twenty-first century vibe.

A run of bass draws in the guitar and drum as an epic scape of atmosphere and tone stretches out. Melody rises in a dreamy meander with breeze like harmonies and steady pulses of percussion. Vocals begin, the classic sound of moody introspection haunts with dance like waltzes into rhythm and rhyme. With a shift of gear, the music rises into another level of energy. A quantum shift leaves the melancholia behind us as soaring guitar notes reverberate and echo over an orchestra of strings.

Just in time for the new album release in just a couple of days, it's time to grab an earful of Seaside Girls from post-punk evocateurs Candy Coffins. If you like bands like The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Afghan Whigs, and You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, (tap the links for eBay swag) then you'll love the musical prowess of this modern sounding group. Their first release in two years, Once Do It With Feeling offers a tantalising treatise of tracks of which we're lucky enough to have a taste with their recent video. Originating in 2018 from the idea that bands not on the radio were often better than the ones that were, Candy Coffins crystallised around the post-punk sound with the finest ingredients of like-minded musicians.

It begins with a vibrant swish of guitar that's bumped up by rhythm and bass. Drums pin the bars to the loose chugging riff as inflections hit the pulse. Piano and vocal join the music, upbeat melodies and a punchy delivery whack us with a draft of warming air that brings the imagination into being. A party atmosphere revels in the freeing spirit encapsulated within the composition. Hooks and catchy lines bounce from the rock n roll attitude and unbound feeling in every section. Seaside Girls is a great advert for summertime, a poignant soundtrack to memory, and a great sounding rock song.

As new fans and old await the release of the new album this October, the title track and teaser single Every Day A Fresh Atrocity has made its way onto the market with a sparkling video. Formed by Jame Lathren in 2018, the group revelled in the secret sounds of great artists who rarely meet the radio. Turning over the rock of commercial sound and seeing what's underneath, Candy Coffins work with a wide ecosystem of influences and sounds that help define their further journey. This new song looks at the way life is getting weirder every day and when something like a relationship breakdown happens at the same time, the two on one situation can seem highly unfair. Being strong is our only option and maybe that's why it's the first number of the record and the new single.

A cool blues guitar swishes into view with lush synth chords behind that fritter into static. Vocals enter, an intriguing 80s vibe that sounds like Tears for Fears or The Cure resonates in discordance with the luminous bars of sound. The parallel lines of emotional clarity and depth of mystery within feeling are unified along a catchy beat and inventive composition. Rock guitar and pounding drums match the effervescent energy of soul that hangs in the melodious air.
