Black Market Karma
The Sour Truth (Featuring Sonic Boom) Flower Power Records Psychedelic indie-pop from London with Black Market Karma meets Sonic Boom for a collaboration towards perfection with The Sour Truth. The Spacemen 3 and Spectrum producer / musician has made time in his busy schedule of being cool to work with this talented and fast-rising act. Joining Black Market Karma with production and percussion, Sonic Boom adds another level of quality to their already glistening and kaleidoscopic sound. Since touring with The Black Angels earlier in the year, it’s been non-stop for Black Market Karma, who’s been working hard in the studio with Sonic Boom to bring us all this sparkling new single on Flower Power Records. A weathered and glowing guitar begins to strum dayglo chords that spell the atmosphere. New wave sensations ooze from the timing and feeling within the mix. A happy and upbeat vocal with a shimmering facia begins to poetically invigorate the song. The chords continue to pulse in their hypnotic glances to the past as harmonising instruments begin to add extra fizz and depth to the progressive and choppy music. A build-up of instruments continues to heighten the mass of sound as the dreamy and imaginative vibe carries us ever further from our sorrows. Black Market Karma and Tess Parks
The Sky Was All Diseased From Friends In Noise Just out last Friday, the new Black Market Karma record consists of six true epics that define and explore the multi-faceted band sound. A mix of psychedelic fuzz and thumping rhythms invents a modern dreamcore schema that sits comfortably among the classics and the up-and-coming. Since the slamming success of Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas LP which came out not that long ago, the band has been nutrified and empowered by its momentum. The new record has been put together as a collage that consists of music recorded between the band and their peers in music. Black Market Karma is fronted by the amazing Stanley Belton who brings the music to life with his leadership. As well as Tess Parks, Black Market Karma have produced work alongside members of The Underground Youth, The Confederate Dead, as well as the encapsulating Ruari Meehan. As the band embark on their latest run of tour-dates, this LP is perfect to set the scene. Smooth strumming enters with a breezy blues guitar. The bass section rumbles along with mechanical pace as the melody evolves and shifts like the shape of clouds. Long bars of imaginary sway lead into a slow and dreamy vocal section. Tess Parks offers an intimate and closely held rendition of poetry and verse. Repeating lines sit against choppy blues guitar which in turn is rooted in a driving rhythm. A progressiveness in the guitar track brings wholesome composition to the mix, intensifying the music by just enough to be felt by a princess sleeping on a pea. Before we realise, we’re being drawn deeper into a mesmerism that’s laid out for us in enchanting and charming corridors of sound. Following on from the recent LP, The Technicolour Liquid Audio Machine, Black Market Karma have faithfully prepared Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas as their next. Taken from the album, due at the end of the month, In My Child Mind (A to E) puts their sound in the headlights ready to be enjoyed. Black Market Karma's brand of psychedelic rock is built on a range of intriguing influences including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Velvet Underground. Filmed in 2017, the accompanying video brings to life a fascinating journey undertaken in Japan. Celebrated director Louisa Pili filmed the entire piece which was then turned into a fancy music video by the band's Stanley Belton. Splashes of chord, bass, and drum condense into a spiralling sway of sound. Shimmering riffs with a fruity keyboard filling lean into one another as the vocal begins. A story of wandering builds with repeating psychedelia and subtle progressions. Elements of the 60s and 70s flow together with modern sensibilities. In between its verses the wash of music streaks from the focus to radiate the joyous and introspective composition into its own little world. The playful and adaptive merry-go-round ensues as the repetitive and hedonistic music takes a happy stroll though our mind.
