Jody And The Jerms
Divine JATJ Records The Oxford pop-rock wonderlings Jody And The Jerms are back with one more number before the year ends. The lively and energetic group have been riding a wave of creativity since Sound Read Six covered Started Something, with the music recorded in August at Safehouse Studios. The song is about hope and belief when confronted with a focus of darkness, the very seed that grows into trees of peace if given time to flourish. Jody And The Jerms have completed a massive tour with dozens of dates around the UK to highlight April’s album, Wonder. While the guitars were packed away in the tour van, the band came up with this tune and hummed it into a phone. With digital magic, the music was captured and preserved for a song to be formed a few weeks later. So thanks to a phone and a spontaneous creative moment, we can all enjoy Divine. It opens with a surge of lush tones that resonate in a brief semblance before melodic vocals break from the eggshell. Drums and guitar jostle with funky grooves and uplifting blues licks as the harmonies and vocal poetry twinkle and shine in starlit skies of emotion. A choppy and catchy chorus leans in against vibrant and soaring verses. Interludes of music interject facias of fascination with synthesiser and guitar working together with a slightly retro influence as the focus of sound reaches way beyond and into the modern day. Divine from Jody and the Jerms is a fun and lively number that will have you jumping up and down if you’re lucky enough to see it live. Jody And The Jerms
Started Something JATJ Records Jody And The Jerms have their third album out in April. Before we receive the twelve originals, we’re treated to the tantalizing single. Mastered by Mike Gardener from Ride at Oxford’s OX4 Studios, the album follows on from their 2022 release Flicker. Previously given public appraisal from the BBC’s late Janice Long, Jody Jeger is joined by Niall Jeger on guitars and vocals plus members of The Anydays who made names for themselves supporting Radiohead and Supergrass. Linking the modern era of music production to the glory days of British independent sound that collided with the world during the 90s, Jody And The Jerms are already enjoying plenty of press and radio play on merit alone. A great piano groove begins the music as the band catches up with guitars, bass, and drums. Jody begins to sing, the voice is a honey of soul and rock that sits tightly on the progression of chords. A happy and upbeat symphony marches through an exciting route full of moody notes and unfinished dreams. A soundtrack to rest, respite, and reinvention, Started Something feels like an ode to all those projects that started off with so many good intentions but never made it past the good idea. It’s a good old rock and roll folk number that carries its own sense of class with synonymous vocals and a generous dose of professionalism.
