From the early days of 80s punk and spiky hair to atmospheric soundtracks for varied mental states, we find ourselves with spy-themed surf rock. One half of Frenchy and The Punk, no prizes for guessing which half, the singer-songwriter Scott Helland fuses instrumental and cinematic compositions with a keen dose of punk attitude. Since the days of playing bass for the hardcore punk act Deep Wound, which Helland formed with Dinosaur Jr. member Lou Barlow and J. Mascis, the punk has expanded his repertoire with rewarding effect. His latest album is to be released in August with major thanks to a brilliant crowd-funding campaign.
 
A choppy electric guitar begins with a snare-driven drum beat that snaps with each bar. Shifty melodics and secretive harmonies begin to explore the shady side of seeing the sights. The tunes rise and fall with every few bars, revealing various rock n roll anthems that peek out from behind various curtains. The sense of continuation is found with the steady rhythm offered by the catchy drums and bass section. The electric guitars explore the sense of secret agent style story-telling that makes the music more than just interesting.
