Isle Of Lewis
The extra-long awaited debut album from Isle Of Lewis resident Cree Mackenzie is out now and it's come with a brilliant music video to accompany the single. Cree Mackenzie is no stranger to the human condition, and at the age of 63, he's a proud survivor of bipolar disorder. It's no easy street when we battle our mental health, stepping outside of our mind in order to put it right is only for the ubermensch among us. Writing from his lifetime of deep experience, not only from his personal realm but also with his now grown-up family, the album covers concepts and feelings that span the unique and extra-special sphere of understanding that wells from the artist. Joining forces with some of the Island's most prominent musicians, the album brings years of practice and pages of story to a focus we can all enjoy.
The song enters on brisk winds that sail the music across to us in streaming lines, bass, guitar, drums and vocal join the foray and rise like a balloon filled with feeling. Melodic intersections raise the energy further, harmonies in the vocal paint distinctive colours of human sensation through the knitted and layered progression of sound. Beautiful words linger in folk style patterns of song that fill the ghostly corridors of memory while facing towards the modern day. Homely and yet expertly produced to sound extremely professional, the feeling of the band sits comfortably in the room as if it were a traditional beer house somewhere in the rain.
