Rayon
Shopping Portland Exploring our love-hate relationship with consumerism, Portland’s post-punk flagship Rayon send us Shopping. Out on Little Cloud Records, the song examines our relationship with survival, revenue, and unquenchable desire. Do we really need this thing? Do they really need this money? It’s not so simple, unread Big Issues in my bag aside, sometimes we deserve a treat and sometimes so do they. The music project of Eric Sabatino, long-term resident of Portland, Rayon is now complete with its missing pieces. Anna Sabatino, Riley McLaughlin, Eric Rubalcava and Derek Longoria-Gomez from Sun Atoms, Yuvees, Pastilla, and Martha Stax, the band make use of rainy afternoons and garage studio setups to make their best sound. For the first time, Eric Sabatino decided to employ the skills of a second maverick, namely Larry Crane from Cat Power, Death Cab For Cutie, Elliot Smith, and more credit, to help produce the record. With that brand power behind the merchandise, how can we refuse? For just over 4 minutes of your hard-earned time, you can enjoy a thoroughly comprehensive journey through American home-grown sound. A punchy guitar riff brings out a sense of urgency before it pauses and lets us relax. The rhythm kicks in, it’s got a reggae feel as the guitar and drum play off against each other in formative passages. Bass dives in; the waters ripple as the pounding notes elevate the kick and snare. Bouncing chorus effects frame the vocals as artistic phrases decide abstraction and point to spirals. The band exists like a planet, spinning in seasons as angular momentum braces for new days. As the directions flow and the sunny periods evolve, emotions twist and fix before undoing again to find new patterns. You can lose yourself in this one, and when it ends, you’ll not be sure where you’ve been. Find out more on the Rayon website Get music by Rayon on Bandcamp Follow Rayon on Facebook and Instagram

Relaxing Enchantment From The Emotional Landscape Of Mercury’s Antennae It's The Veil Opaque Vol 24/12/2025
Mercury’s Antennae
The Veil Opaque Vol. 2 Portland Oregon’s headlining gothic shoegaze and art music trio Mercury’s Antennae finish their run for 2025 with The Veil Opaque Volume 2. The four track maxi-single follows from their spine-tingling Among the Black Trees LP which proceeded The Reflecting Skin single we featured last winter. Putting bright yellow marker beneath the strengths of each member, Erick r Scheid provides a haunting 12-string guitar against the sombre rumble of bass by Cindy Coulter. Dru Allen, as always, gives the performance of our dreams with defiantly good vocals and lyricism. The track is described as the veil being lifted, and our vision becoming clear. A sound experiment that evolved into a sound of music, Mercury’s Antennae present The Veil Opaque Volume 2. Sunny electronica opens the score with a frontage of glimmering spectral sound. Drums crunch through with a muffled sense of gothic charm. Bass then joins the flow as a swish of feeling draws open like a curtain. Guitar sends its transmission, high chorus and reverb mutate the strings into a soul combing caress through feeling and dream. Ghostly, beautiful, and spellbinding, the song moves on in human prowess as the vocal sinks in with density and plump edges. It feels like twilight and the starlings are murmurating gently in the frantic colours of distant dusk. You can get music by Mercury's Antennae on Bandcamp Follow Mercury's Antennae on Facebook
Robin Ross and the Melodynes
Spill No Mo Wine Pennsylvania A veteran collective of lifelong musicians and friends, Robin Ross and the Melodynes bring a song they created while relaxing by a lake. From the shores of the beautiful Lake Huron to your music system via networks of studio and media, Spill No Mo Wine shares its important message. It comes from their new album, the second release, Mind Space will present itself to us all sometime early next year. Released via RPM Entertainment, the Pennsylvania-based band continue the up-beat and fun-loving vibe of 80s-90s pop rock such as The B52s and The Go-Go's. The Melodynes, including Wharton Tiers, JoJo Ellen Gaetani, Katlyn Albrecht, Nancy Isola, TW Howell, Emery Rhodes, Joe (Bass) Torres and Tony Anniello, recorded the music in Milford, where a different kind of sound makes its way to you this morning. Spill No Mo Wine! A whispered sentiment opens the tune before a bouncy rock n roll rhythm begins to chug forward. Bluesy guitars wail and screech against the bars as bass and chords bump along. A quick vocal style presents line after line of story that builds an ever-increasing picture of good nights. A classic rock style sound is like a fire that burns in the middle of the field as the instrument circle the flames and project their fuel and air into the middle. The chorus keeps coming back and lifts us into the spiral as the embers fling little pieces of themselves into our vision. Mission Jupiter
This Is Not The End Minsk In the Belarussian capital of Minsk, where the heavy metal scene surges, Mission Jupiter set sail with their new album. They also have a new singer; Kate Varsak offers a timely union and an epic vocal instrument that elevates their sound to peak performance. The Aftermath album is rich with adventure and story. Its songs take us from high to low through riffage and rhythm. This Is Not The End makes headway as the single, headlining and underlining the fact that new singers and new influences rise to the challenge. Mission Jupiter are heading for the cosmos and already have their front row seats in the entertainment sphere. It’s their turn to get up there and deliver the goods. It foams forward with huge bass and drums that crumble into quick bass pulses and palm-muted power chords. The vocal sprawls out like lantern light on an open lake at night. Rippling emotions dance in the crests of projection as shadow play evokes sensual determination and progress. A quick piece of music, only 2 minutes; the progression leads into some new dimension of desire that opens the album like magic. Celeste Corsano
Shellfish Philadelphia In the Tri-State area of Philadelphia, where Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania meet in one giant metropolitan area, we find the enchanting voice of Celeste Corsano. She was drawn into music with a love of artists like Kate Bush and Tori Amos plus Brian Eno and Fairpoint Convention. It’s a seriously marbled mix of musical ingredients that creates the slice of angel cake we’re about to enjoy. Shellfish is the fifth single released in her run of productions on the Magic Door Record Label. Making the music happen is electric guitar wizard James Mastro. Recording music producer Ray Ketchem helped to make the record and provided percussion and drums. Bass and acoustic guitar were provided by the talented David Nagler, who has credits with Nova Social, Joan Baez, and Roseanne Cash, plus many others. Celeste hired her own brother Chris to do the artwork; he’s worked for Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, and Bjork before now. Magical and mysterious, with a little bit of back-combed pop, It's Shellfish. It opens with a dramatic vocal, her pitch reaches the notes only women can, and the lyrics craft a woven magical patchwork story. There’s a sudden fluster of music; the melodies dance and twirl like gymnastic ribbons, twirling among choreographed jumps. As we listen, the abstract music pushes through, selfish shellfish, and lots of punchy rock n roll verses that soar along waves and currents of electric guitar. Projections of sounds, operatic moments, and folk-eyed knowing looks at the human condition; Celeste Corsano bursts through and refuses to go unnoticed. Michele Ducci and Letizia Mandolesi
Follow The Sun Snail In The Clouds An animated film and a musical soundtrack by Michele Ducci and Letizia Mandolesi, Snail In The Clouds offers a charming and eternally relevant tale about a strange planet called Snail. The alien inhabitants are a hybrid mixture between snails, scorpions, and humans. We’ll have to watch it. A human composer called Agostos, along with his companion Doctor Subtilis, begin to eradicate all the hybrid aliens. He pays particular attention to protagonist Diodoros, who with his hybrid band, attempt to steal the arc of melodies, thus saving the world. Well, the track Follow the Sun is a sneak peak of the film, and it was performed live at London’s Nursery For Freedom festival that raised a lot of money for Palestinian people in the West Bank. Shall we listen, too? Folk and rhythm join forces with a bounce of bass and a rush of melody. A keyboard motif begins to twinkle as the deep notes bump around on the key. A low-key drumbeat keeps time with lots of cymbal and kick; all the while Michele Ducci decorates the bars with his voice. The words flow like wall art, some pieces are repeating patterns, and some are designer label posters that ring with unique classic auras. We’re all unique, but some are more unique than others. We follow the pace of the song with a gladness as the easy, laid-back sway just keeps pouring with something homely and warm.
