Single Cell Recordings
Pushing the funk-rock button for the Manchester crowd, popular local act Caulbearers stand astride the scene with a double A single. This B-side track compliments the cavernously jaw-dropping Bubbling Spring Remix of Synching. The tracks were mixed by Seadna McPhail, whose previous work includes Badly Drawn Boy, Happy Mondays, Everything Everything, and Jah Wobble. Mastered by Jim Spencer, the same who worked with The Charlatans, New Order, and Johnny Marr, you just know that the skills of the group are set to shine bright.
An up-beat snappy rhythm opens out with guitar, bass, and drum. Snare drives the progression along a bluesy guitar lick. Keyboards then take the senses by the hand and lead them into an open minded verse section. Layers of keys and guitar work with the consistent drumming to let us feed on the relaxed groove. As the chorus builds, extra sections of string and keyboard bring out a harmonising orchestration that launches into a dusty town melody. Evocative and transcendent, Twisted Chord takes us through a colourful utopia of sound.
