Magic Door Record Label
Hitting the New Jersey scene with a global ricochet thanks to the great quality of their work, art-pop five-piece Elk City bring on a brand-new album. The new single and third track of the record Apology Song gets the movement started with proficient and profound writing. Above The Water contains plenty of original material plus their singles of recent release including Your Time Doesn’t Exist and That Someone, each one already owning itself on the global streaming sites and bringing in fresh faces from all over the place. With members including guitarist Chris Robertson of Punch Havana, Feed, and Psychedelic Furs, Renee LoBue on the vocals, drummer Ray Ketchem, Luna’s Sean Eden on guitar, and Richard Baluyut of Versus on bass, this mix of vibrant talent ensures their whole sound is expertly put together.
Buoyant and choppy licks open with a swagger of summertime and openness. Vocals enter with a synonymous simulacrum to themselves. Instantly recognisable and hauntingly beautiful, a playful melody unravels over the frame of music that springs up like flowers in a lush meadow. The progression of the music keeps the ball rolling along the wide open lane as trees and minor landmarks crawl by at a snoozy and dreamy pace. Laid back yet invigorating with folky charm, Apology Song from Elk City takes us from A to B in perfect contentment.
